Good morning.

Congress is mounting its strongest challenge yet to President Trump’s Iran War, federal prosecutors have unveiled a sanctions-evasion case tied to Iran’s nuclear program, and investigators in Washington, D.C., are digging deeper into allegations that police officials manipulated crime statistics.

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve a war powers resolution to limit unauthorized American military involvement in Iran.

Sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, the measure would require the White House.

THURSDAY PDB – A united West and Japan, its top ally in Asia, see both China and Russia as threats. The G7 meeting’s minutes make grim reading for China and Russia.

The world’s seven most industrialized countries have sent both Russia and China a clear message of their solidarity and resolve, not only regarding Ukraine but also by aligning with the U.S. in viewing China primarily through a security and geoeconomics lens.

AND THE TWO BELLICOSE, AUTHORITARIAN WORLD POWERS AREN’T HAPPY – Russia and China hit back at a G7 that saw them as a threat.

Moscow and Beijing lashed out against the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima, where leaders of major democracies pledged new measures targeting Russia and spoke in one voice on their growing concerns over China.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday slammed the G7 for indulging in their “own greatness” with an agenda that aimed to “deter” Russia and China.

Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Ministry accused G7 leaders of “hindering international peace” and said the group needed to “reflect on its behavior and change course.”

GUESS THE G7 MADE ITS POINT.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories from national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

POLITICS

VA issues new warning that default could have ‘catastrophic’ effects for veterans. The Treasury Department pays $25 billion worth of bills for the Department of Veterans Affairs each month — for veterans’ benefits, employee salaries, private health care, pharmacy costs and other programs like payments to small and veteran-owned companies that do business with the VA.

NATIONAL SECURITY

Watchdog: Dept. in charge of nuclear weapons safety hasn’t fully implemented program to address ‘insider threats.’  The Energy Department is in charge of the country’s nuclear weapons safety in addition to energy used as fuel.

CHINA THREAT

US says Chinese hackers breached gear in Guam, key to Pacific defense. The intruders could be laying the groundwork to disrupt communications between North America and Asia in the event of a military confrontation, according to researchers at Microsoft.

China Committee wants Congress to establish a Taiwan weapons stockpile. The House China Committee on Wednesday advanced 10 bipartisan recommendations to deter China from attacking Taiwan, which it hopes will be included in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act.

‘Logistics, logistics, logistics’ is now Marines’ top focus, says CMC Berger. The Pentagon needs to make the most progress in logistics to counter China, Marine Corps commandant Gen. David Berger said.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

How can Ukraine use the F-16? Retired USAF generals and F-16 pilots explain. Team Biden’s long-awaited decision to support a European effort to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16s is the first step in a lengthy process to transform Ukraine’s Soviet-style air force into a Western one.

Wagner Group boss says more than 20,000 of his troops died in Bakhmut. The head of the Russian private army says his force lost the men in the drawn-out battle for the eastern Ukrainian city.

Half of US public approves of Washington’s arms deliveries to Ukraine. A new survey finds American support for Washington’s backing of Ukraine has ebbed slightly since the war began 15 months ago.

Ukrainians were probably behind Kremlin drone attack, US says. American agencies do not know exactly who carried out the attack, but suggest it was part of a series of covert operations by Ukraine’s security services.

US distances itself after Humvees seen in Belgorod. The Pentagon said it did not approve any transfers of equipment to paramilitary organizations outside the Ukrainian military.

SPACE THREAT

Space Force will look at how to hack targets from space. “We’re laying the groundwork for starting to figure that,” said the leader of Space Operations Command.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Newest US supercarrier, Ford arrives in NATO member Norway, to take part in drills. The aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford, on its first deployment under the aegis of a combatant commander, arrived Wednesday in Oslo.

Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, Makin Island ARG on call for Typhoon Mawar disaster relief mission. The Nimitz task force and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group are on standby to assist in disaster relief efforts on Guam after Super Typhoon Mawar blew over the island on Wednesday.

US MILITARY

The US must maximize F-35 production. Air superiority is fundamental to victory in modern conflict.

How a rusty B-52 carcass is key to the bomber’s big upgrades. Within a brand-new, gleaming-white facility called the “high bay” at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, a battered and rusty-looking fuselage and left wing of a B-52H has become a laboratory for the team that will revamp the aged Stratofortress fleet for the next 30 years.

China has already Told Japan they have not forgotten what Japan did in WWII at nanking and many other places…Russia and China agree that G7/NATO cannot be trusted after Merkle admitted the was a fraud and the west never intneded to to honour the agreement. And the 2014 regime change ein the Ukraine was an American/CIA overthrow of a Ukriane that did not want Islamic Migrants.
It doesnt take Rocket Sience to see that American Duplicity around the 1995 Budapest Agreement and over the subsequent years is why we have the Ukraine situation of today. The US and the EU have proven that they cannot be trusted
