Active Shooter Reported On Capitol Hill

A Washington Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) spokesman has informed The Daily Signal that the 911 report of an active shooter threat on Capitol Hill “appears to be a bad call.”

“No injuries and no shooter were located,” said MPD Officer Hugh Carew. D.C. police are continuing to assist U.S. Capitol Police (USCP).

“Please stay away from the area as we are still investigating. We will continue to communicate with the public here,” USCP tweeted.

U.S. Capitol Police have responded en masse to unconfirmed reports of an active shooter at the Russell Senate Office Building.

A significant police response was documented shortly after law enforcement received a distressing 911 call. Senators and staff affected by the emergency have been instructed to shelter in place.

A notice to all Capitol Hill employees went out shortly before 3 p.m. EDT, mentioning the “security threat,” instructing everyone to:

• Move inside your office or to the nearest office.
• Take emergency equipment and visitors.
• Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows.
• If you are in a public space, find a place to hide or seek cover.
• Remain quiet and silence electronics.
• Once you are in a safe location, immediately check in with your OEC [Office of Emergency Communications].
• No one will be permitted to enter or exit the building until directed by USCP [United States Capitol Police].
• If you are in a building outside of the affected area, remain clear of the police activity.
• Await further direction.

The search for the unconfirmed shooter by Capitol Police lasted nearly an hour.
