Despite evading prosecutors once before over the shooting death on his low-budget Western “Rust,” an independent forensic report shows the gun Alec Baldwin held in front of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins fired normally.
The conclusion that the gun did not malfunction raises the possibility of new charges against the A-list celebrity.
Prosecutors are reviewing the expert analysis.
Per CNN:
“The fired evidence cartridge is the consequence of a normal hammer fall from the fully cocked position of the hammer,” the report compiled by Forensic Science Services in Arizona states.
The report was filed as part of a defense motion on behalf of the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who is charged with tampering with the gun used in the shooting as well as two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
The October 2021 shooting on a New Mexico film set killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
They were struck by a live round of ammunition fired from a prop gun being held by Baldwin while rehearsing a scene, officials have said.
Calls to Baldwin were not immediately returned.

BUT…this tells us nothing about how a live cartridge got on the set to begin with, so the question remains: Is this a compounded “accident,” or…murder?
You almost have it. I differ with ‘accident’. Every junior actor, every person at a gun range, re-enactment portrayal or a ‘newbie’ at a safe gun handling seminar abosoutely and without reservation KNOWS you NEVER place a live round in any working or non working gun and point it in the direction of any living or non living thing you do not intend shooting. I do suspect murder. baldwin is just arrogant and pious enough to believe he can get away with murder. Much like several other actors who committed murder of ex lovers or partners & got away with it.
I just think arrogance and stupidity got the better of him. After the cast had used the gun for plinking bunnies and cans between shoots as reported, someone forgot the gun was loaded and failed to check it before handing the gun to Baldwin. Baldwin cocked it, pointed it at the woman, and pulled the trigger. The actor and the gun moll are both culpable and responsible for the killing unless Baldwin loaded live ammo without her knowledge after she checked to ensure it was unloaded. That scenario seems unlikely.
I still think Baldwin is MORE responsible for the cinema photographer’s death because he ignored ALL calls to stop bringing in live rounds onto the set. Several of his crew walked due to safety issues. Baldwin was the executive producer and cut massive corners to cut costs including overworking the “armorer” who also worked at least 2 other jobs on set.
First of all, NO LIVE AMMO should be on the set, PERIOD! Accidents happen when stupid people do stupid things. Baldwin is not really too bright, to say the least. Just because a lot of us know the rules of gun safety, doesn’t mean that Baldwin does, he’s an azzhole and has proven it on many occasions. My guess is that he was being a jerk and thought it would be funny to pretend to shoot this woman, who may have rejected his advances, bang your dead, but it happened for real.
You absolutely nailed it Mr Miller. My wife & I once were part of a Rev War living history reenactment company. And positively no one was EVER allowed to bring any round ball or other projectile (the common ammunition of the era) onto the grounds. Only under strict regulation, safe guards, awareness and permission was anyone considered to be allowed to bring a round ball to display for educational purposes only. And to think, a round ball wasn’t ‘ready to fire’ until a gun was 1- proper caliber, 2- matched with a flint which was set properly 3- gun loaded with powder, 4- primed, 5- and the gun had to have a clear touch hole. Many other safety regulations as well as all individuals needed to be trained & educated of all things NOT to do. And baldwin just ups, points and squeezes a trigger of a modern firearm aimed directly at a person is more than arrogance & stupidity. The act of just pointing a working firearm at anyone is an automatically listed as an deadly assault. ALL hollywood firearm, explosive & other ‘violent’ consultants & stunt people should have stopped him at the quick. Instead, baldwin and his ego were allowed to disregard instructions & safety procedures and that alone makes it at least a civil case of murder.
I’ll believe it when I see this killer go to trial! And I do not use the word “killer” lightly. Anyone who intentionally point a firearm at any person, and pulls the trigger, is a killer. Whether the gun is supposedly loaded wit blanks or not, if the action results in someone’s death.
Whether baldwin actually MEANT to shoot anyone, for me doesn’t matter at this point. baldwin is a known bully, whiner & a very likely twin in personality & temperament as hunter biden with just as many faults. Allow me to restate one thing, baldwin’s temperament outshines hunter’s by a mile & a half. baldwin should at least face reckless endangerment & negligent homicide. After which, everyone involved either as a companion to either victim or as a family member should sue baldwin for every dime, real estate holding, stocks, bonds and future income / proceeds from his career for wrongful death and suffering. No less would be charged to any other person without his elitism. hunter biden is a perfect example. Being an elite, his charges are being whittled away as we speak while non elite’s of the same criminal charges are sitting in jail without the luxuries or ‘time/social suffering’ served afforded to those who MAY face elite prison.

The firing of this revolver required that first the hammer must be pulled back to the cocked firing position which then enables the gun to fire a bullet WHEN THE TRIGGER IS PULLED. Baldwin cocked the gun, pointed it at his victim and pulled the trigger, killing her. Morons should NEVER be allowed to play with guns.
