According to official United States Secret Service (USSS) sources, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle will appear before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, July 22nd.
Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi:
“Director Cheatle will testify before the House Committee on Oversight on Monday. The Secret Service is fully accountable for the safety of its protectees. We are committed to better understanding what happened before, during, and after the assassination attempt of former President Trump to ensure it never happens again. That includes complete cooperation with Congress, the FBI, and other relevant investigations.”
In a recent interview on CNN, Director Cheatle addressed the USSS response during the July 13th attempt on former President Trump‘s life. In that statement, she noted that Secret Service personnel responded appropriately, but emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing security gaps.
“We are committed to reviewing and enhancing our security protocols to prevent such occurrences in the future.” Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle
In addition to what is widely regarded as a badly botched performance on the day of the assignation attempt, allegations have been made that the Secret Service is blaming partnered elements of local law enforcement and first responder agencies for the dismal security response that day. The USSS categorically denies this claim.
Their official statement to that effect reads,
“Our agency, composed of dedicated professionals, many from state and local departments, cannot fulfill our mission without the support of courageous police officers. We are deeply grateful to the officers who ran towards danger to locate the gunman and to all of our local partners for their unwavering commitment. Any news suggesting the Secret Service is blaming local law enforcement for Saturday's incident is simply untrue.”
