Earlier this year, the Biden Harris administration opened Obamacare to illegal immigrants enrolled in DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) — the Obama era executive order shielding one million illegal immigrants from deportation.
At the time of the announcement, over 25 million Americans were estimated to be uninsured — drawing further criticism of a White House that has been chastised frequently for prioritizing lawbreakers and foreign entities over law abiding citizens.
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach is filing a lawsuit against the Biden Harris Administration, alongside 15 other states. So far, Alabama, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Virginia have joined him.
According to the lawsuit, this change in policy would make over 200,000 illegal immigrants newly eligible for Obamacare. The lawsuit calls it a “valuable public health benefit” that “entices,” “incentivizes,” and “encourages” illegal aliens to remain in the United States, as the healthcare they'd receive here at no cost would be superior to anything they'd receive in their countries of origin in most cases.
The lawsuit also acknowledges the inevitable increased burden this rule would create for taxpayers. Federal regulators estimated that Obamacare coverage for just 100,000 DACA recipients would cost $240 million in 2025, $300 million in 2026, $290 million in 2027, and $300 million in 2028 — and these programs almost always cost more than what the government predicts they will. The Center for Immigration Studies, however, estimates this costing taxpayers almost $3 billion annually. Ironically, when Joe Biden first announced this plan, he boasted of the tax breaks it would grant illegal aliens after a particularly draining four years for American bank accounts, record low tax returns, and sky high federal spending.
Readers should note that Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz granted taxpayer funded healthcare and college tuition for illegal immigrants, while opposing the same for veterans — despite constantly touting his military experience to advocate for strict gun control, going as far as implying he served in combat despite quitting ahead of his scheduled deployment. Kamala Harris has voiced support for giving medicare to illegal immigrants as well as decriminalizing illegal immigration entirely and abolishing ICE (immigration Customs & Enforcement).
In his 2012 State of the Union address, with Joe Biden sitting directly behind him on stage alongside Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama promised the American people that DACA recipients would not be eligible for Obamacare.
“There are also those who claim our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This too is false. The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.” Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) shouted, “You lie!” and was met with a chorus of boos — presumably from his Democratic colleagues. It turns out he was right.
As of 2020, 62% of all likely voters opposed government subsidized healthcare for illegal immigrants, while every major Democratic presidential hopeful supported it. With the immigration crisis reaching a boiling point, spilling over into all corners of the country, going from an abstract political debate thought of largely as a problem for border states to a reality confronting everyday people in states like Massachusetts and Minnesota, that number has likely risen.
