America's most powerful gun rights organization will soon have a new leader.
Wayne LaPierre announced his resignation Friday. He has served as the group's CEO and Executive Vice-President since 1991, and has worked for the group since 1977.
In announcing his resignation, LaPierre noted the following, as first reported by Fox News Digital:
“With pride in all that we have accomplished, I am announcing my resignation from the NRA … I've been a card-carrying member of this organization for most of my adult life, and I will never stop supporting the NRA and its fight to defend Second Amendment freedom. My passion for our cause burns as deeply as ever.”
Health reasons were cited by the 74-year-old LaPierre as the catalyst for his departure.
