A conservative congressman has filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years – who is also the mother of his seven children – after allegedly having an extramarital affair with a GOP colleague.
Morgan Phillips, a reporter for the Daily Mail, revealed on Thursday that Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.) has filed for divorce from his oncologist wife.
According to court records, McCormick filed for divorce two weeks ago. A mutual restraining order was filed on the same day.
When asked if McCormick’s reason for the divorce involved an affair, McCormick’s estranged wife, Dr. Debra Miller, replied: “I’m sure that he will not be forthcoming.”
“You should ask Rich and his colleague,” she added.
According to multiple sources on Capitol Hill, McCormick has become quite friendly with Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas) as of late:
One GOP member told DailyMail.com they had seen McCormick and and Van Duyne, 53, ‘holding hands under the table’ at the weekly Republican Study Committee lunch within the last three to four months and had seen him ‘grab the small of her back’ on the House floor during votes.
Two eyewitnesses say they have seen he and Beth holding hands, with one witnessing it as the pair were leaving votes.
And during the State of the Union on March 7, the two could be seen sitting and laughing together while watching Biden’s speech.
McCormick even reached over to gently squeeze Van Duyne’s arm in a tender moment between the pair captured on camera.
When asked about the displays of affection, a spokesperson for McCormick replied, “He has kept that private and will continue to keep his personal life out of the media spotlight.”
A representative for Van Duyne declined the Mail’s request for comment.
McCormick and his wife were photographed together as recently as Christmas. He notably did not mention her in this year’s Mother’s Day tribute.
