Hakeem Jeffries Announces Bid to Succeed Nancy Pelosi

-

Rep. , D-N.Y., has officially made his move.

Jeffries, a rising star in the and considered by many the heir apparent to Speaker Pelosi, announced his intention to become the House's next Democratic leader.

Should he succeed, Jeffries would be the first Black party leader in .

Jeffries has represented eastern Brooklyn and southwestern Queens in the House of Representatives since 2013. He rose to national prominence during the first of then-President as one of the impeachment managers prosecuting the House Democrats' case against Trump in the U.S. .

The Hill reports how Jeffries outlined his intentions and vision for the Democratic Party in a four-page letter to his colleagues:

“When I initially sought the position of Chair of the House Democratic Caucus two terms ago, none of us could have predicted the challenges the American people would confront in the years to come. However, time and time again, throughout a period of enormous turmoil for our nation, House Democrats rose to the occasion,” Jeffries wrote.

“Today, I write to humbly ask you for your support for the position of House Democratic Leader as we once again prepare to meet the moment,” he added.

Jeffries is one of three up-and-coming Democratic leaders who have been eyeing a chance to move up the leadership ranks whenever the opportunity emerged. With Pelosi stepping down on Thursday, and her two deputies — Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Md.) and Democratic Whip Jim Clyburn (S.C.) — following close behind, the path was clear for them to do so.

Rep. (D-Mass.), currently the fourth-ranking House Democrat, launched her bid on Friday to move up to the No. 2 whip spot in the next Congress. And Rep. (Calif.), the sixth-ranked vice chair of the caucus, is vying to replace Jeffries as caucus chairman.

  1. The democrats are the party of nut jobs. Whoever they select, you can be assured it’s a weirdo. Fetterman would be a great rep for Dems. Or, the idiot man who thought Guam would topple over with more people.

  2. Where do they come up with these people?
Is there a special list of gutter rats that they choose from?
    Just asking.
