Abortion Numbers Slightly Lower Since Roe V. Wade Overturned – Or Are They?

-

The lobby predicted disaster, and pro-life Americans celebrated last June when the United States Supreme Court overturned its 1973 ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.

But despite liberal warnings of abortion being completely outlawed and conservatives hailing what they thought was a final victory, new statistics show the number of abortions in the United States has only been reduced by six percent since before the ruling.

“Nationally, on average there were 77,073 abortions per month in the post-Dobbs months, as compared to the months before the decision, which had an average of 82,270,” the Society of Family Planning (SFP) reveals in a new report.

That figure, 77,073 abortions a month, adds up to 924,876 abortions a year with Roe v. Wade overturned.

While the SFP reports that's a decline from recent figures they've compiled, figures from an abortion lobby think tank shows abortions may actually have increased since Roe v. Wade.

According to the , founded as the research arm of the national abortion chain, there were 916,460 abortions performed in 2019, the final full year before Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Guttmacher also recorded 930,160 abortions in 2020, with the Dobbs ruling coming in the middle of the year.

That would mean there have been more abortions in the years since Roe v. Wade was overturned than in the years before, with the Dobbs ruling having virtually no effect on abortion.

Observers believe it is because most abortions were already taking place in states which did not restrict abortion after Dobbs and women living in states with abortion regulations simply traveled across state lines to abort children or used at-home abortion chemicals.

Pro-life advocates point out that overturning Roe v. Wade was just one of several battles to protect human life, and a to the United States Constitution is the only way to end the practice of abortion nationwide.
