All Eyes Are On Georgia: Why The Peach State Is Critical To GOP Success

-

Republicans must win Georgia in 2024 to win the White House.  There is no path to 270 electoral votes without the Peach State.  Republicans have carried in every presidential election since 1996 except in 2020.  In 2022, every statewide Republican except for scandal-tarnished Herschel Walker, easily won election.  The legislature is solidly Republican.

So, carrying the state should not be an issue, right?  Wrong.

The Georgia is a political organization at war with itself.   The Georgia Republican Party is in total chaos.  Many activists are still angry at Governor Brian Kemp for not intervening in the 2020 election and somehow declaring Donald Trump the victor, even though he had no legal power to do so.  Things are so bad that Kemp, and most other statewide Republican officeholders skipped the Georgia Republican State Convention.

They were probably smart to do so.  is about addition not subtraction.  Yet the recent Georgia Republican State Convention seemed to do anything it could to drive away voters who do not adhere to the most rigid policies possible.

At a time, when Georgia Republicans are having an issue in winning suburban female voters who in the past, were a key Republican voting bloc, they elevated to the State Republican Committee – Kandiss Taylor.  What is her claim to fame?  She claims there is no scientific proof that the world is round.  She insists in all seriousness that it is flat.

If that wasn't good enough, it elected a convicted felon as First Vice Chairman – Brian Pritchard.  Pritchard was elected on a platform of voter integrity and rooting out the ‘stolen' Georgia election of 2020.  Yet he has his own voter integrity issue.  He has illegally voted in 9 elections in both Georgia and Pennsylvania.

Then there were the members of the Georgia Republican State Committee wearing ultra-right hats saying they wanted no more RINO Presidents like – Ronald Reagan.  That is right, they wanted to read the Gipper out of the Party.  They also claimed there is no need for voter outreach as you are either for us or against us.  One was even elected to a committee after she had led her county party to pass a resolution denouncing Republican Governor , at the same time she was losing her county party headquarters.  There is no in-between.  Of course, the Georgia mainstream and Democrats will have a field day with that.

Worse, the Georgia Republican Party is nearly bankrupt.  It has been spending money on legal fees from the Fulton County District Attorney investigation of and State Party officials with indictments coming in August.  Add to that, it also missing treasurer reports.

All of this has led to Brian Kemp and former Senator Kelly Loeffler establishing their own groups to take the place of the Georgia Republican Party.  These groups are doing voter registration drives and raising money for Republican candidates.  If Republicans win Georgia in 2024 it will be due to the work of these organizations not the Georgia Republican Party.

Even more disheartening is Georgia Republicans were more focused on attacking each other at the State Convention than talking about a path to victory in 2024.  They seem to have forgotten none of the party bickering will matter if Democrats carry Georgia in 2024 which at this point could well happen and with it the White House.
