‘Because It’s A War!’ Bill Maher Defends Israel Over ‘War Crimes’ Charges

ANALYSIS – Liberal comedian and late-night TV host Bill Maher has increasingly moved to the right on a number of issues. And his common sense is infuriating the left.

Most recently, Maher clashed with the co-hosts of “The View” (a brainless lefty show I find unwatchable) on the hot-button topic of the Israel-Hamas War. (RELATED: ‘Shut Everything Down,' Pro-Hamas Groups Targeting US Military Bases)

When asked by reliably leftist, and equally clueless, co-host Sunny Hostin about the civilian death toll in Gaza and the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu, Maher shot back:

“Well, that's ridiculous, but it's a war.”

When Hostin asked why it is ridiculous, Maher added:

Because it's a war. And they were attacked, and they're defending themselves. Now, this is a war. Do you think Hamas needs to be destroyed? This is the question.

When co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin asked Maher how we do that with a cease-fire, the comedian gave one of the best summaries of the current Hamas-Israel conflict I've heard so far:

All right, so Hamas needs to be destroyed because they are a terrorist organization who have, who say openly that they want to commit genocide on the Jewish people, on the state of Israel. That's what “from the river to the sea” means. Okay? And they say it very openly. They said, “We did this attack.” They've attacked Israel five times. They've started five wars since they were given that land back. They could have chosen to turn that place into any place they wanted to. And they took a lot of money that they took from the international community, and they spent it on bombs and guns and building tunnels. So, if they need to be destroyed, how do we do that? It's a war. I don't know how to do that, and you don't know how to do that. I assume the Israeli Defense…

With that, Hostin interrupted, asking Maher if he was concerned about innocent lives, to which Maher replied:

Of course, everybody is, but that's what happens in a war. Here's a way to stop that: stop attacking Israel.

Maher's comments were met with applause. With that, Joy Behar jumped in and added, surprisingly: “And stop calling for the annihilation of Israel and the Jews.” (RELATED: Impeachment Filed Against Biden For Withholding Aid To Israel)

It is great to see Maher rip the left on its most recent hateful pro-Hamas, pro-terror, anti-Israel, anti-Jew schtick. It's also great to see Behar agreeing with him. And Maher being applauded for his insights.

In Maher's case, his mixed Catholic-Jewish background certainly has something to do with his moral clarity on the topic. But it is a much needed clarity, nonetheless. And While many think Behar is Jewish due to her surname, she is purely of Italian Catholic heritage.

And I applaud her for her clarity as well.
