MONDAY  – Team Biden's plan to install a floating pier off the Gaza coast to supply Palestinians will endanger the U.S. service members who must build, operate and defend the structure from attack, military experts say, a risk with enormous political consequences for the president should calamity strike.

POLITICS

JUST DON'T VOTE! – Esper ‘definitely not voting for Trump,' leaves door open for Biden. Former Trump Defense Secretary Mark Esper said he is not voting for his old boss but may vote for Joe Biden.

The VA and DoD don't have a funding problem. They have a mismanagement crisis. The $328 billion 2024 budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs is the largest in agency history. Joe Biden's 2025 budget for the VA asks for yet another increase to $369 billion.

US POWER OVERSEAS

Marines back in Australia during six months of training across South Pacific. They have returned to northern Australia to train as an air-ground task force across the continent and in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Preparing for a China war, the Marines are retooling how they'll fight. U.S. troops are preparing for conflict on an island-hopping battlefield across Asia, against an enemy force that has home-field advantage.

New NATO members prompt US Army to revisit ‘high north' (Arctic) stock locations. The service is also crafting a plan and working the diplomatic channels to gain new agreements for Army prepositioned stock sites in the Indo-Pacific region.

Missile-finding Space Force unit in Qatar ‘almost certain' to have saved lives. A Space Force unit recently stood up in the Middle East is making its mark by giving a heads-up to U.S. troops being targeted by enemy missiles.

Air Mobility commander pushes for connectivity for outdated mobility fleet. The general said he wishes his planes were better able to communicate as the command delivers aid to Gaza.

Navy fends off Houthi drone attack for second day in a row. U.S. forces in the Middle East took out a wave of attack drones launched over the Red Sea by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

CHINA THREAT

China's Advancing Efforts to Influence the U.S. Election Raise Alarms. China has adopted some of the same misinformation tactics that Russia used ahead of the 2016 election.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Russia launches barrage of 99 drones and missiles on Ukraine's energy system. The large-scale attack was launched Friday.

Putin signs decree on spring military conscription. Vladimir Putin is calling up 150,000 citizens for statutory military service.

France will deliver hundreds of armored vehicles to Ukraine. This, by the beginning of next year as part of a new package of military aid for the country that just entered its third year of war against Russian invasion.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Nordic nations ponder military changes with NATO in mind. With all Nordic countries now part of NATO, the nations must manage how to integrate national as well as regional security initiatives with alliance needs, which could require changes to existing command structures.

In Poland, jets return to the road – with Italian friends in tow. Italian Eurofighters, as well one of Poland's Turkish-made TB2 drones, joined Poland's fleet of Su-22s and MiG-29s on doing road landings during a recent exercise.

France asks for foreign police and military help with massive Paris Olympics security challenge. It has asked 46 countries if they would be willing to supply more than 2,000 police officers to help secure the Olympics this summer.

Iran alerted Russia to security threat before Moscow attack. It warned of a potential major “terrorist operation” on its soil ahead of the concert hall massacre near Moscow last month.

US MILITARY

National Guard wish list would restore fighters cut from 2025 budget. The National Guard's budgetary wish list would restore the dozen fighters and allow the service to buy all of the F-15EXs it originally planned.

Contractor guardians? Space Force considers commercial help for operations. It may use civilians or even contractors to help conduct operations, as the service sorts out how to best manage its small workforce.
