Bye Bye McCarthy!

Do you know the true cause of the division within Republicans in Congress that caused the ousting of Kevin McCarthy as speaker?

Answer: Fear of the media.

Earlier this year, the media hyped having to raise the debt ceiling as an end of the world crisis.  So, having no backbone, Kevin McCarthy folded like a cheap suit and agreed to raise the debt ceiling $4 trillion with only a minor concession of postponing the IRS hiring 87,000 new agents.  He forced his membership to support this bad deal, because he could not message against the media’s narrative.

Instead of leading our country out of debt like a Speaker, he caved.

McCarthy has been weak on impeaching Biden even with the evidence mounting against him.  Why? Because the media doesn’t like it when Republicans impeach a Democrat President.  It is ok for Democrats to impeach, but not Republicans.  However, McCarthy should have considered it an opportunity to expose the most corrupt President to ever live in the White House if he knew how to message or use a crisis.

This past week, he repeated the mistake of the debt ceiling deal by throwing in with the Democrats to pass a 45-day Continuing Resolution to keep the government funded.  Once again, he was afraid of what the media was going to say about the federal government being closed.  Who cares when our nation is $33 trillion in debt?!

Worse yet, McCarthy did not even try to get spending cuts.  His first Continuing Resolution was rejected by 20 Republicans, so it failed.  Did he try to amend to get the 20 Republicans on board?  No, he sold out to the Democrats so that the next CR lost 90 Republicans.  But he was the media’s hero for stopping the shutdown.  

Now there was a lot that McCarthy could have said and done to save his Speakership. Congress had passed legislation funding 70% of the federal government which Senator Chuck Schumer was holding hostage.  No one knew, because McCarthy failed to message.  Is it a fear of the media or failing to know how to get the message out?

Overall, the division in our party between the RINOs and the conservatives is the media.  Conservatives don’t care about the media’s narrative because they want to get things done.  Many of them whistled past the graveyard in 2022 regarding Roe Vs. Wade being overturned.  It cost us the red wave.  On the other hand, the RINOs sell out to the media which causes GOP voters to abandon them at the ballot box.  That’s probably why Romney lost his White House bid.

It is time for the GOP to play smart ball with the media.  The press needs to be used as a tool, not feared like a stick.  If you look back to when Newt Gingrich was Speaker, he controlled the message with the Contract with America.  Now we flounder on messaging.

DC Republicans must do a much better job of messaging so that we can unite the party.  For example, the federal government shutdown dilemma should have been about saving our country from going bankrupt.  A presser cutting up credit cards might have been something to consider.  Why wasn’t a presser held outside of Schumer’s office exposing him as the real culprit?

When Biden recently shut down drilling in Alaska, McCarthy should have held a presser at a gas station explaining how Biden is making us all pay more.  

There are 1000 things the GOP could do on messaging!  With a new Speaker, maybe there is hope.
