While movie-goers and critics alike are praising the patriotic blockbuster sequel to the 1986 ‘Top Gun,’ the far-left is going ballistic over ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’
And they are angrily voicing their disgust, calling it unoriginal, unrealistic, fascist warmongering, even claiming documents show it secret Pentagon propaganda.
This is despite the high acclaim most regular Americans are showering on this decidedly un-woke flick.
As Sarah Sicard notes in Military Times:
Since it landed full throttle in theaters on May 27 the long-anticipated “Top Gun: Maverick” has raked in more than $400 million at the domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing movie of the year. Its score on Rotten Tomatoes is “Certified Fresh” at 97 percent on the Tomatometer, and sits at 78 percent on Metacritic.

Yes, the movie is unrealistic in many ways, and jingoistic and patriotic. Exactly what America needs and wants.
Still, one lefty movie critic, Brett on letterboxd, who has reportedly watched over 1,500 movies and written more than 650 reviews, gave the movie half a star and then wrote a more than 700-word, deranged political screed bashing it.
He wrote: “Top Gun: Maverick’ is a movie where our heroes are trying to start World War III,” adding:
Even if one can ignore the rabidly bloodthirsty nature of this movie, it is still absolute garbage. ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is a 131-minute long advertisement for death. Aggressively unoriginal, wildly irresponsible with its messaging, historically revisionist, and shamelessly jingoistic in the name of providing fellatio to arms dealers. This is a masterwork of propaganda in defense of some of our nation’s worst traits, and it’s an enormous success. I left the theater depressed and forlorn.
I don’t know about you, but I’m very happy that Brett is depressed and forlorn. His hateful anti-Americanism continued:
If every single one of our plucky heroes had died during their training montages, it would have made the world a safer place.
But as Sicard lightheartedly explains, this critic could not “remove himself from the current international political climate for two hours to watch a film about an old guy flying cool planes and running shirtless on a beach for no reason.”
Meanwhile, Alan MacLeod, senior staff writer for MintPress News, shockingly discovered, using Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests that the Pentagon secretly conspired with the producers to promote their militaristic propaganda.
However, Military Times notes that:
His story took particular note of a production agreement between the Department of Defense and Paramount pictures, wherein the film crew was allowed access to military equipment and “[a]ssign a senior staff, post-command Officer to review with public affairs the script’s thematics and weave in key talking points relevant to the aviation community.”
Too bad this shocking revelation is not shocking at all. It is standard for movie producers hoping to make authentic military movies. There is actually an entire Hollywood office within the Defense Department dedicated to working with movie production staff. Military Times writes:
“The Defense Department has a long-standing relationship with Hollywood,” according to a Pentagon press release. “In fact, it’s been working with filmmakers for nearly 100 years with a goal that’s two-fold: to accurately depict military stories and make sure sensitive information isn’t disclosed.”
It’s great to see ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ doing incredibly well at the box office, and even better to see the left collectively imploding over its success.

Brett is grossly out numbered and has only done a major disservice to his creditability. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this one yet, but I loved the first one and expect to love this one. Talked to a friend last night and she’s already seen it 4 times. I hate the diversity movies where producers are trying to stuff their beliefs down my throat or scary blood and guts thrillers. It’s far past time to have a nice patriotic movie in the theaters. Let’s go Brandon!!!
There was plenty of pc diversity but not so extreme as to be distracting. Great escape and fun.
My husband and I just saw Top Gun Maverick and loved it. Awesome feel good movie. Full of thrills and the need for speed. Lovingly ties together threads from the original. Happily non-woke. Can’t wait to see it again.

Has always been my belief that the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan where US troops are storming Normandy Beach should be required viewing in every high school and college history class. Maybe the young people of today would be more appreciative of the price paid for the freedom they enjoy.

Feel sorry for Brett whatever his name is, he couldn’t go to a movie and enjoy the patriotism and the fun, what a sad human being, he is what is wrong never praising America, I was happy to go to a movie that wasn’t trying to push Hollywoods woke ideas on me. Throughly enjoyed it.
It seems I may need to break a long stsnding tradition and go to see Top Gun: Maverick in a theater.

This is the first movie in decades that I want to go see on the large screen! As a country I fel we’ve needed some movies like this to come along instead of films loaded with all of the dark side of society and from what I’m hearing it’s isn’t woke. Not being woke is a major plus!

You must have had a tough childhood to be this off-center. You might also be one of the few “alphabet people” that the majority of Americans tolerate, but can’t really identify with. You seem troubled and stressed – maybe one of those we read about that still lives in his parent’s basement? Most people reading your critique can’t relate to your opinion either.
The world can be a very tough place. If you had ever served in the military overseas, you might understand that Americans enjoy remarkable freedoms because we’ve had a strong and well led military – at least we used to be well led.
Movies like this are what most patriotic Americans are yearning to see and experience – a world they are totally unfamiliar – and it makes them feel proud of their Country again. But words like patriotic and proud are probably not frequently used in your vocabulary. I pity you and everything you appear to represent.

Pilots receive Hazardous Duty Pay. Upon graduation, we were ordered to four different fleet squadrons flying different operational jets. Eight months later, within the span of three weeks, the ‘scorecard’ read… one dead, one in ICU, one ejected safely.
I was the guy in ICU at the front-end of a 16 month ‘paint-and-repair’ experience as a naval hospital patient.

From what I saw on the trailer, the film panders to the ideologues in the Dem/Commie party, implying that women, blacks, Hispanics etc. are “Top Guns.” As usual, the Dems/Commie reviewers expose their utter mindless hypocrisy and ignorance. During WWII Hollywood produced perhaps hundreds of propaganda films, at the direction of the fed gov, promoting destruction and bloodshed against the Japanese and Germans, even against civilians.
This guy is nothing more than someone who scammed his way into watching movies and then commenting on them. As if anyone cares. I saw it and enjoyed it. It is not a documentary for crying out loud. Simply a fast pace action film about fast movers with lots a of flying. Not everything has to be about the woke, PC, rainbow agenda.
This very well made movie that I watched and loved is a Patriotic movie about good verses evil, similar to the political fight we are currently having in our government.
Sad commentary but I suspect we can dismiss Brad’s assertion that he “left the theater depressed and forlorn,” as we naturally assume he entered the theater in the same frame of mind. I have never seen such pusses as those on the left. Seems like every time you hear them they’re “depressed and forlorn;” that is, at least, when they’re not outright furious.

As much as I dislike Tom Cruise and his ilk; I am tickled pink the loosey-goosey-left-anarchist-side-show is disliking a movie the rest of the nation says prompts patriotic feelings. For this reason only I may buy a ticket. I have no reason or need to support Cruise, but the fringe benefit in this case may outweigh the lack of need.
Top Gun is a great movie. ***** stars. If you are a movie goer and enjoy the unique military of the USA, then this is a must-see that provides some refreshing cinema.
Top Gun: Maverick is a fun movie and, in my estimate, better in many respects than the original. However, those who call it “propaganda” are incorrect because it is actually just fiction. As a career military flier and intelligence analyst, the geopolitical, operational, and tactical inaccuracies far outweigh any fragments of realism. In my estimate, this is the movie version of the soon-to-be-released (I’m guessing) video game. **IF** the U.S. were to undertake such a mission, this might show the least preferable way to carry it out. But, it was a thrill ride sendoff for Maverick and his ilk.
