Lessons From the Ron DeSantis School of Dominating Dishonest Media

-

Governor is no stranger to generating headlines. Few politicians seem to be as equipped to handle the pressure that the press can apply.

While DeSantis isn't the only Republican to put up a good defense against media bullies, he's strengthened his brand out of going on the offensive by telling the press exactly what he thinks of them.

For example, in this clip, he decided on a new name for what people would dub the “.”

Or in another example, where he decided to go on the offensive and call out the press for their apocalyptic reporting on 's coronavirus response.

Or, for even another example (just for good measure), not letting them get away with a bogus hit piece against him.

DeSantis appears to have taken a trick or two from President Trump, often adding some wit and flair to what would otherwise be a rather dull press release, chock-full of cliché politician-speak. A witty one-liner or comeback will help people remember what you said, and that's not limited to media interactions.

For example, while other politicians would likely have released a press statement regarding the situation, DeSantis released the following memo, recognizing Emma Weyant as the rightful winner of the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division I women's swimming championships. Weyant finished in second place to transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.

DeSantis is eminently comfortable stepping in front of the press, saying whatever he feels he has to, disregarding the longstanding GOP tradition of trying to appease the corporate media.

In an interview with The Federalist, he gave the following advice to his fellow

“Stop trying to grovel in front of [corporate media outlets], stop thinking that they're going to like you,” DeSantis concluded, calling for Republicans to fight the narrative being pushed by corporate media as well as Big Tech, the Biden White House, and woke corporations. “Republicans need to understand where the battle lines are being drawn.”
