A Mississippi attorney convicted of attempting to bribe a judge wired $187,000 to then-Vice President Joe Biden’s brother James, in what some suspect was an attempt to lobby for a pardon.
In an amazing coincidence, James Biden was once recorded by FBI agents investigating the other attorney involved in the scheme, in a completely separate bribery probe.
“BREAKING: W/in weeks of a fed judge turning down his petition to have his bribery record cleared, Joe Biden’s corrupt Miss. donor pal Joey Langston began wiring a total of $187k to Jim &Sara Biden’s Lion Hall Group for unspecified services from March-Oct 2016 while Biden still VP,” investigative reporter Paul Sperry reveals on Twitter.
Legal Newsline reports Langston pleaded guilty in 2008 to “attempting to bribe Hinds County Judge Bobby DeLaughter in an attorneys fees dispute involving disgraced plaintiffs attorney Richard ‘Dickie’ Scruggs.”
Langston “told prosecutors that he offered DeLaughter an appointment to a federal judgeship to be made by Scruggs’ brother-in-law, former U.S. Senate Majority leader Trent Lott, in exchange for a favorable ruling in a lawsuit brought against Scruggs by a former joint venture partner, Mississippi attorney Roberts Wilson,” Legal Newsline reports.
Coincidentally, Scruggs once hired James Biden to lobby Congress to get tobacco companies to pay his law firm. At the time Joe Biden was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee overseeing the legislation.
“President Biden’s brother James was secretly recorded by the FBI during a bribery investigation into a Mississippi trial attorney who shelled out $100,000 to his consulting firm in the late 1990s,” the New York Post reported Dec. 17.
“Richard Scruggs, the trial attorney, hired James and Sara Biden’s DC consulting firm while seeking to gin up support for tobacco legislation being contemplated by Congress in 1998, the Washington Post reported,” the Post writes.
“(T)he revelation comes amid an impeachment probe into alleged influence-peddling by the president’s family members,” the Post notes.
“I probably wouldn’t have hired him if he wasn’t the senator’s brother,” Scruggs reportedly told The Washington Post.
Is it suspected by some Langston was paying James Biden to lobby the Obama administration for a pardon, much like how convicted bank fraudsters Edgar and Vonna Jo Gregory paid then-First Lady Hillary Clinton’s brother Tony Rodham $100,000 in 2000 to lobby for their pardon.
Coincidentally, $100,000 in 2000, when adjusted for inflation, comes out to almost exactly the $187,000 paid to James Biden.
The funds could have been for business expenses, however. Langston and James Biden were partners at one time in a controversial medical firm, though it’s not clear they were engaged in business at the time of the payments.
Coincidentally, an executive involved in that firm was also convicted of bribery.
In February 2020, liberal outlet ProPublica reported:
One of Scruggs’ lawyers early in the case was Joey Langston, who would soon plead guilty in another Scruggs-related judicial bribery case. Langston had hosted fundraisers for Joe Biden and solicited the senator’s legislative help.
Despite Langston’s guilty plea and subsequent disbarment, he and Jim Biden eventually became business associates. Both showed up as managers in Earthcare Trina International, a marketing firm affiliated with a Sacramento, California, health care company called Trina Healthcare.
“Biden was going to have a big bite of the apple,” said Shad Ellison, a corporate dealmaker who was asked to help raise money to open medical clinics that would administer Trina’s new diabetes treatment.
Trina’s “artificial pancreas treatment” was controversial. The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had stopped paying for the procedure in 2009, citing evidence that it doesn’t improve health outcomes. The American Diabetes Association agreed. Nevertheless, Trina’s founder, lawyer G. Ford Gilbert, tried to push a bill through the Alabama Legislature requiring private insurers to cover the treatment. He pleaded guilty in January 2019 to federal bribery charges and was sentenced to six months in prison.
Neither Langston nor a spokesperson for Jim Biden responded to request for comment.
