The Kremlin has recently begun making false claims about a secret U.S. and Ukrainian ‘military-biological program.' The communist Chinese have also been repeating these same false claims.
While the U.S. has flatly rejected these accusations as ‘preposterous,' ‘laughable,' and ‘outright lies,' U.S. and NATO officials believe these claims could be yet another Putin-contrived false flag ‘pretext' for Russia to use its own banned chemical weapons in Ukraine. Last Sunday tweet by the Russian foreign ministry:
@mod_russia: During the course of the special military operation evidence of an emergency clean-up performed by the Kiev regime was found – aimed at eradicating traces of the military-biological programme, in Ukraine, financed by @DeptofDefense.
The fabricated Russian claims were then echoed by Beijing: “This Russian military operation has uncovered the secret of the U.S. labs in Ukraine, and this is not something that can be dealt with in a perfunctory manner,” ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said Thursday. However, Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary general of NATO has warned that Russia's false claim of Ukraine storing U.S. biological weapons may be used by the Kremlin as a pretext for chemical warfare attacks.
In an interview with the German daily Welt am Sonntag, Stoltenberg said:
Now that these false claims have been made, we must remain vigilant because it is possible that Russia itself could plan operations with chemical weapons under this fabrication of lies.
He added about using chemical weapons: “That would be a war crime.”
Earlier the U.S. Department of State said the U.S. “does not own or operate any chemical or biological laboratories in Ukraine.”
U.S. State Department Spokesman Ned Price said in a statement: “These claims have been debunked conclusively and repeatedly over the years,” Price continued. “Russia has a track record of accusing the West of the very crimes that Russia itself is perpetrating.”
And the White House has pushed back hard on this Russian ploy.
“It's the kind of disinformation operation we've seen repeatedly from the Russians over the years in Ukraine and in other countries, which have been debunked, and an example of the types of false pretexts we have been warning the Russians would invent,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. Separately, a White House official told NBC News. “We do believe that we should be on the lookout for Russia to possibly use chemical or biological weapons.”
CIA Director William Burns also noted grave concern that Russia is preparing a false flag operation to justify its own chemical or biological attack it would then blame on the U.S. or Ukraine.
“This is something, as all of you know very well, is very much a part of Russia's playbook,” he said in testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday.
“They've used these weapons against their own citizens, they've at least encouraged the use in Syria and elsewhere, so it's something we take very seriously.”

There are biolabs, yes. There are NOT bioweapons facilities as alleged by the Russians, nor is there a Ukrainian nuclear program, despite the Russians violating their agreement after the Ukrainians turned over Soviet-era weapons in 1991.
