Washington, D.C. – The French Parliament voted overwhelmingly to force the “guaranteed liberty” to abortion into the French Constitution. The exact text under Article 34 states that French people will have the “guaranteed liberty to have recourse to the voluntary interruption of pregnancy.”
This makes France the first country in the modern world, with the exception of Tito's communist dictatorship of Yugoslavia, to make abortion a fundamental right at the level of freedom of speech and religion. This could lead to the end of the conscience clause for doctors and nurses who don't want to perform abortions, the banning of pro-life speech in public and the striking down of the 14-week limit on abortions.
French President Macron has promised to sign the article at the promulgation ceremony on Friday. This will be the final step to make “interrupting pregnancy” – ending the life of a unique and valuable human – fundamental and nearly sacred in France. As the French leader Phillippe de Villiers stated, “It's the progressive dehumanization of the world by the programmed erasing of the face of man.”
Today is a day of mourning for women and children whose lives and futures are threatened by this legislative move without the vote of the French people.
There is no longer time for believers to stand still and think that they will have freedom to live their lives as Christians. It is the time to take action. To act not with despair and death – which abortion brings – but with love and support for those in unplanned pregnancies, so that no mom ever feels like she needs an abortion.
It is time to shine brightly in the darkness – to go into the hardest places – to form teams in every school, university and city – to save lives now and for eternity.
