When Political Correctness Overwhelms Common Sense

-

There are times when it seems some of those on the left are living in an alternative reality devoid of context, never mind common sense.

A recent example: a assistant undersecretary, , issues a directive at the end of February calling for…

…the removal of the “V-J Day in Times Square” photograph from all Veterans Health Administration facilities…This action is promoted by the recognition that the photograph, which depicts a non-consensual act, is inconsistent with the VA's no- tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and assault, as outlined in VA Handbook…

You can read the entire, hilariously PC memo here.

As The Military Times' Leo Shane III reports:

The photograph was taken by journalist Alfred Eisenstaedt in New York City on Aug. 14, 1945, as Americans celebrated Japan's surrender at the end of . Other journalists, including military reporters, also captured the moment.

And it has become one of the most recognized images of all time.

In what counts as record speed for the federal bureaucracy, the secretary of Veterans Affairs shut down the take down order within a few hours of it being posted on social :

Let me be clear: This image is not banned from VA facilities – and we will keep it in VA facilities.

That ought to end whatever faculty lounge debate over the photo was brewing in the bowls of the VA.

But it also brings into sharp focus that, apparently, there are too many assistant, deputy, deputy assistant, assistant to the deputy and so on secretaries on the federal payroll.

They've run out of productive work to do, leaving their hours free to engage in all sorts of mischief, none of which has anything to do with delivering services to their constituents. Or delivering value to the taxpayer.

Time for them to discover the many rich and varied careers available to them in the private sector.
