Was he targeted along with the secretary of defense?
Politico's Daniel Lippman reported a substantial law enforcement presence at the home of White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
The Secret Service activated its suspicious item protocol after an unidentified driver in a passing car threw manure on Sullivan's property on Monday morning around 8:20. Secret Service agents eventually contacted the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department's bomb squad unit, who, in turned, reached out to the city for cleanup. “The Metropolitan Police Department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal team responded and declared the scene as safe,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the New York Post. An investigation into the incident is ongoing:
Sullivan's home was the site of a stunning security breach last April, when an apparently intoxicated man walked into the national security adviser's house in the middle of the night.
Sullivan alerted his round-the-clock Secret Service detail only after asking the intruder, who appeared to be drunk and confused, to leave the premises, according to the Washington Post.
Pro-Palestinian activists protested outside Sullivan's home on Christmas Day over the Biden administration's refusal to call for a permanent cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.
Far-left organization The People's Forum, which organized the protest, has called Sullivan a “war criminal.”
Sullivan, 47, has served as Biden's national security adviser throughout his presidency.
Politico's Pentagon beat reporter Lara Seligman reported on Tuesday afternoon that pro-Palestinian protesters also dumped a significant amount of manure outside Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's home in Great Falls, Virginia. Video posted to a Turkish state TV's YouTube channel allegedly shows activists howling outside Austin's home. In it, individuals can be heard yelling, “Austin, Austin, you ain't sh*t, we'll keep fighting until you quit,” and “Austin, Austin, rise and shine, occupation is a crime!”
The Pentagon is declining to comment further, aside from noting that a protest occurred at the secretary of defense's home. According to Seligman, the manure deposited at Sullivan and Austin's homes were of a comparable size.
