The Washington, D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that former President Donald Trump is not immune from prosecution, rejecting Trump's claims of absolute presidential immunity for his alleged crimes.
The ruling blocks Trump's attempt to dismiss his federal election interference case by arguing that he is immune from prosecution or arrest for actions taken while he was president.
“For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant,” the panel wrote in its 57-page decision.
“But any executive immunity that may have protected him while he served as President no longer protects him against this prosecution.”
