Although Republicans lost the Virginia House of Delegates and failed to take back the Virginia Senate during Tuesday's “off-off year” elections, there was at least one significant bright spot.
Progressive prosecutor Buta Biberaj, who has been at the core of many problems in Loudoun County, Virginia during her first term in the position was ousted from her role, and Republican Bob Anderson who previously held the job 20 years ago was elected again to replace her.
Loudoun Now reported the following results early on Wednesday:
In the constitutional office races, Republican Bob Anderson ended election night with a 1,067-vote lead over first-term incumbent Democrat Buta Biberaj for the commonwealth's attorney's seat.
Biberaj issued a statement late Tuesday night saying the race was too close to call and she would await the final tallies as more mail-in votes arrive and provisional ballots are counted.
Anderson served as Loudoun's commonwealth's attorney from 1996 to 2003.
Anderson's victory was backed by a number of Republicans including Attorney General Jason Miyares, who celebrated the ousting of Biberaj with the following statement posted to X, formerly Twitter:
Loudoun County had enough of treating victims like criminals and letting repeat, violent offenders off easy.
They wanted a prosecutor who puts the needs of the county before their political agenda – and that's why they fired Buta Biberaj last night.
Proud of the work my group @PAP_ActionFund did in advocating for change.
The group in question – the Protecting Americans Project Action Fund – has been active across the country combatting far-left prosecutors like Biberaj since the 2022 elections, and won once again last night with Anderson.
The group celebrated Anderson's win with their own statement posted to x, formerly Twitter:
Congratulations to @BobAnderson4CA on a big victory in Loudoun County! PAAF is proud to have supported Anderson with a targeted GOTV campaign in the days leading up to the election. Huge defeat of Soros-backed Buta Biberaj – major win for safety in Loudoun.
Loudoun County also re-elected Republican Sheriff Mike Chapman to another term, signaling that the electorate is fed up with the rise in crime currently being seen across the country, particularly in the Washington, DC metro region. If Republicans can learn anything from this result, it should be that security and stopping the crime running rampant in our communities is a message to latch onto for 2024.
