New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) had just landed in Washington for a meeting with the Biden administration when he suddenly canceled, flying back to New York.
Adams had flown to our nation's capital to discuss the migrant crisis affecting New York City.
The abrupt scheduling change almost perfectly coincided with news the FBI raided the Brooklyn home of liberal political operative Brianna Suggs. Suggs, Adams' top fundraiser, has deep ties to efforts to advance his political agenda.
Speaking to ABC7, a representative for Adams' office claimed that Suggs “is not a City Hall employee, has nothing to do with the operation of the city”:
A spokesperson for Adams says the mayor was heading home to “deal with a matter.” No additional information was provided on why Adams left D.C., but it was believed to be a personal matter.
It is not safety or security related, and not related to the operation of the city. An NYPD official said it was “nothing on our end.”
The Adams spokesperson declined to comment on whether or not the FBI search of Suggs' home led to his sudden return.
Earlier this morning, Adams tweeted a video about his Washington, D.C. trip.
The mayor's office said today's meeting will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
A coalition of mayors arrived in Washington Thursday seeking White House support and funding for the ongoing migrant crisis.
