The perpetrator who assaulted the spouse of former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has learned his fate following his conviction for attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on an immediate family member of an elected official: 30 years behind bars.
David DePape broke into the Pelosis' San Francisco mansion in October 2022, shouting “Where is Nancy?” The hammer-wielding conspiracy theorist later told investigators that he intended to break Speaker Pelosi's kneecaps if she didn't follow his instructions.
However, the speaker was in Washington. Instead, DePape encountered her husband, Paul – who managed to call 911 when he wasn't looking.
Following the arrival of police officers, DePape walked downstairs with Pelosi, where they answered the front door. A struggle for the hammer ensued. After wresting control of it away from his victim, DePape struck Pelosi on the head before officers could restrain him.

NBC News has more:
U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley came close to siding with the U.S. Probation Office, which recommended a 25-year punishment against David DePape.
Government prosecutors had sought the maximum term of 40 years.
In a statement on Friday, the Pelosi family said they were proud of Paul Pelosi, or “Pop,” and grateful to those who wished him well since the attack.
“The Pelosi family couldn't be prouder of their Pop and his tremendous courage in saving his own life on the night of the attack and in testifying in this case,” the statement, shared by spokesperson Aaron Bennet, read. “Speaker Pelosi and her family are immensely grateful to all who have sent love and prayers over the last eighteen months, as Mr. Pelosi continues his recovery.”
DePape faces a litany of state charges as well, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and threatening a public official with serious bodily harm or death.
Jury selection in the state case is set to begin Wednesday.
