‘Numerous’ Police Officers Struck By Gunfire In Crime Scene Standoff

Four officers were killed and four others were wounded in Monday's shooting incident. The officers were shot while trying to serve a warrant to a known felon. The suspect died at the scene as well.

UPDATE, April 29, 2024 (4:30 p.m. EST):

Reports state that a deputy U.S. Marshal has died following today's shootout in Charlotte, North Carolina. The ambush occurred during a U.S. Marshals Task Force investigation. SWAT remains at the scene, which authorities describe as a barricade incident.

Nearby residents are advised to stay indoors for their safety.

The confirms that “numerous” police officers were shot in the eastern part of the city on Monday.

The situation remains active as paramedics rush victims to nearby hospitals.

Bystanders report heavy police presence on Galway Drive near Julian Underwood Park, not far from the intersection of The Plaza and Milton Road.

“Avoid the area,” a department spokesperson said. “Many roads are closed for faster ambulance transport. Please cooperate with authorities.”

At 2:23 p.m., police confirmed that a SWAT team was on the scene. Police urged residents to stay inside their homes.

“CMPD SWAT team is on scene and continuing to work through the incident,” the X post read. “This is still an active scene. Please avoid the area.”
