Israel’s Battle In Gaza City – Flood The Hamas Terror Tunnels

THURSDAY PDB – Hamas terrorists seek to block Israeli advance on Gaza City. Israeli tanks and troops pressed towards Gaza City on Thursday, to annihilate the Hamas command structure, but met fierce resistance from the terrorists’ using mortars and hit-and-run attacks from tunnels.

Flood the Gaza tunnels. The biggest to Israel in its war on Hamas is how to destroy their Gaza terrorist tunnel networks. Bombing mostly works—at a cost—but there’s a better way. Flood them with seawater from the adjacent Mediterranean.

Egypt flooded thirty-seven cross-border tunnels in southern Gaza back in 2015 in what stands as a practical proof of concept in this location.

Flooding would force the terrorists above ground where they can more easily be engaged, dramatically reduce the Israeli and civilian Gazan casualties, and also resolve the problem of the tunnels that are too deep to destroy through bombing.

BIDEN’S BORDER SECURITY BUDGET REQUEST IS A JOKE – Johnson says House GOP will consider Ukraine funding, border security together. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said House Republicans would “marry” appropriations bills for Ukraine funding with border security Wednesday.

GOP Reps. Ken Buck and Kay Granger announce they won’t run for re-election. Buck attributed his decision to his party’s reliance on former President Donald Trump’s claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

CHINA THREAT

BOOM! – USS Ronald Reagan pulls into the Philippines amidst tension with China. The aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan began a port call in Manila on Saturday amid tensions between China, the Philippines, and the U.S. ally over territorial claims in the South China Sea.

China sends more ships and planes toward Taiwan. It sent another 43 military aircraft and seven ships near the self-ruled island.   

BIDEN DANGEROUSLY NAÏVE – China, US to meet for rare nuclear arms-control talks. Washington meeting comes as concerns grow over an arms race with Beijing and Moscow.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Import records illuminate Ukraine’s desperate hunt for arms and ammo. Kyiv is paying exorbitant prices for Soviet-designed materiel and has even managed to obtain Swiss ammo despite Geneva’s ban.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 617. At least 118 settlements in 10 regions of Ukraine’s east had come under Russian fire in the previous 24 hours, marking the heaviest day of Russian shelling this year.

Poll: US public’s support for Ukraine begins to wane. The share of Americans who say the U.S. is doing “too much” to help Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggression jumped to 41% last month — driven by growing concern among Republicans.

Senior US Republicans urge long-range missiles for Ukraine. They urged Joe Biden to send longer-range missiles, in a show of continued support for Kyiv among U.S. lawmakers despite pushback from some conservatives against more aid.

Seoul believes North Korea sent Russia over a million artillery shells. South Korea’s top spy agency believes North Korea has sent the million shells to Russia since August to support Putin’s war on Ukraine.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Blinken, Austin to discuss Indo-Pacific with Indian counterparts in November. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will meet with their Indian counterparts later this month in New Delhi to discuss “concerns and developments in the Indo-Pacific.”

Switzerland becomes newest customer of most advanced Patriot missile. It is buying the most advanced version of the Lockheed Martin-made Patriot missile as an add-on to the country’s Air2030 program.

BUT GAZA GETS ALL THE ATTENTION – A record 6.9 million people have been displaced in Congo’s growing conflict. This, according to the United Nations migration agency. It makes it one of the world’s largest displacement and humanitarian crises.
