The American right celebrated a victory on Sunday night in a country 10 hours away by plane.
To say Javier Milei despises leftists is an understatement. Over the last decade, the flamboyant right-wing economist gained popularity through his combative appearances on Argentine television.

Milei, the Libertarian Party presidential hopeful, has been elected the next president of Argentina. The result was not even remotely close. Milei won by an 11.4 point margin against the establishment candidate.
A disciple of the Austrian school of economics, Milei's views clashed with the Keynesian economists churned out by Argentina's top business schools. With inflation surpassing 100%, people yearned for something new. Mileli has pledged to implement sweeping cuts to the government and block any new taxes.
Other proposed changes include significantly loosening the country's gun controls and holding a referendum on the bill legalizing abortion, which he opposes.
Similar to Brexit in 2016, many right-wing Americans believe Milei's victory bodes well for next year's presidential election.
