“It's gonna be changed…”
Former President Donald Trump suggested regime change will come to Cuba if he's reelected. In a video address posted to Truth Social, the 45th president said he is “closely monitoring” the island's food shortage, prompting rare protests against the communist government.
Trump accused President Biden of being “weak towards the communists,” and hinted at regime change.
He declared, “I support the Cuban people!”
“I want to express my admiration and support for all of the brave people of Cuba, who are standing up against the vile communist regime,” Trump began. “It's not easy and we appreciate it. And it's gonna be changed.”
During his presidency, Trump reversed an Obama-era policy that had relaxed travel and trade restrictions with our Caribbean neighbor.
Mediaite continues:
“Under my administration, we will return to being very strong on the oppressors unlike crooked Joe Biden, who has been very weak on the communists,” Trump continued. “I stand with the Cuban people. He does not stand with them. He doesn't care about them. He couldn't care less.”
Trump is popular among Cuban Americans, which is not surprising as most of them identified as Republicans in 2020.
The former president then called on Cuba to hold “free and fair elections.”
