Kinzinger Announces Retirement While Hinting at Political Comeback

-

Six-term congressman and prominent Trump critic (R-Ill.) has announced that he will retire at the end of his term.

The announcement follows the debut of a heavily gerrymandered congressional map by . The map, which is on its way to the desk of Gov. J.B. Pritzker, erased Kinzinger's district. It will also likely guarantee a 14-3 Democratic Party majority in the state's congressional delegation for the next decade.

ABC News further reports:

Kinzinger has been one of a handful of vocal, anti-Trump and his announcement is a shock to the current political environment — but it's part of a larger pattern of House Republican resignations.

He is the second of the 10 who voted to impeach Trump in January 2021 for “incitement of insurrection” to announce they're not running for reelection. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, R-, made a similar announcement in September.

Kinzinger's announcement comes as he continues to take heat from members of his own party for his work on the select committee to investigate the attack on the Capitol, though the congressman said he expected political pushback on the heels of the proceedings.

“I think I'll definitely face a primary and the wrath of some of 's hardcore base that will continue to exist, but I still believe that once he's out of office once we can evaluate this whole presidency outside of him having the megaphone,” Kinzinger told ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl and Political Director Rick Klein on “Powerhouse ” podcast in January.

  1. Couldn’t happen to a more perfect RINO. HIs animosity towards Trump took precedence over the country, his party, and his constituents who now have to put up with this quasi communists coup going on in Washington. The A-hole in chief, Emperor Biden owes this guy a lot. Maybe he can have his comeback in the democrat party. It is of course tragic that Republicans will be outnumbered in Illinois by over 3 to 1.

    • We certainly don’t need someone whose vote is based more on who he dislikes rather than what is best for the Country. Good riddance to foul trash.

BTW: Illinois is a cesspool. And to think, Honest Abe came from there. My, how times have changed.

    • Great post….this guy was and is a whiner and cryer your typical anti Trumper. He’s got as much TDS as Pelosi. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  2. I truly hope that others who are Republican supporters will let the party officials know that if they do not come out and pledge that the party will not offer one dime to the 13 scumbags in the House and the RIMOs in the Senate for their campaigns and that the Party will back primaries on each of them, I refuse to have one cent of my money going to anyone that believes in this spend and tax policy the left is pushing. If you think this will only tax the wealthy, look at the wealthy that are backing the Democrats. Do you think these people got wealthy by giving money to the taxman? If you do, you are a special kind of moron!!
