Joe Biden put forth a proposal for drastic reforms to the Supreme Court of the United States, calling for 18 year term limits, demanding a new appointment every two years, eliminating presidential immunity and imposing an “enforceable ethics code.”
This announcement comes less than a month after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of former President Trump, granting him criminal immunity in the face of multiple legal battles considered frivolous and politically motivated by a large share of the American public and the legal community.
Joe Biden claimed to make this proposal with the goal of restoring faith in the Supreme Court and “normalcy” with no evidence to support a widespread loss of faith in the institution outside of left wing voters disappointed with recent decisions. Many argue that of all government entities, the Supreme Court is one of the few still operating as it was intended by the founders under the current administration.
After spending half of a century in public office, his call for term limits struck many as particularly ironic and hypocritical. Many voters also chastised the President for proposing term limits and a “code of ethics” for SCOTUS that could easily be applied to Congress, where Joe himself has participated in the very behavior he's trying to curb in the judiciary.
In his announcement of the proposal, he stated that “no one is above the law” as he suggested a sweeping transformation of the United States government he has zero authority to enact or enforce.
His plan would require a constitutional amendment, necessitating a majority in Congress or state leadership the Democrats don't have, with no viable pathway to implementation ahead of the election.
What his plan does do is show the American people where the Democrats' priorities lie, and that their leadership is more invested in rewriting laws to serve their agenda than addressing the very real and pressing hardships facing average citizens – many of which the Democrats are directly responsible for.
Throughout the entirety of the Biden presidency, Democrats have been openly hostile to the Supreme Court, and repeatedly called for overhauling the judicial branch because it's one of the few pillars of government out of their control – especially following the historic reversal of Roe v. Wade.
This news comes just a week after bowing out of the presidential race via X (formerly known as Twitter) after mounting pressure from donors following an abysmal performance in the first debate of the election season, indicating he wasn't mentally or physically fit for office.
If he's unfit to run, is he or his team currently fit to govern or rewrite our Constitution?
His plan for the American people was laid out in detail in a paywalled article for the Washington Post, where the majority of voters would not be able to readily access it. While Joe Biden is listed as the author, readers should note that a man barely able to speak a coherent sentence would have a much harder time writing an op-ed. Some voters speculate that this is a last ditch effort to achieve a long-time goal of the American Left, securing more political power ahead of an election that Democrats aren't confident they can win.
Biden is an idiot. Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves. The separation of powers is foundational to our democracy(constitutional republic). Executive, legislative and judicial are “separate” and “equal”. Stfu Joe.
