States One Step Closer to Amending the Constitution

-

The Legislature has added the Cornhusker State to the list of states fighting an asymmetric war against the expansive federal .

With the news out of Lincoln, 17 states have passed a resolution calling for a .

Their attempt to undo decades of government overreach is unprecedented, as Fox News' Teny Sahakian explains:

The Nebraska Legislature passed a resolution Jan. 28 calling on states to begin the formal process to pass constitutional amendments that would limit the federal government's spending and jurisdiction, as well as set term limits for members of .

“What's driving this as much as anything is overreach on the part of the federal government,” Nebraska state Sen. Steve Halloran, who sponsored the resolution, told Fox News.

“The Founding Fathers had anxiety that that might happen,” he said. “I don't believe they imagined that it would get to this point.”

Under Article V of the Constitution, state legislatures can bypass Congress to propose and vote on constitutional amendments through a convention of states.

Thirty-eight states are needed to ratify an amendment. Besides Nebraska — Georgia, Alaska, Florida, , Tennessee, Indiana, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arizona, North Dakota, , Missouri, Arkansas, Utah, Mississippi and Wisconsin have passed a convention of states resolution.

A convention of states application has passed one chamber in the following states: Iowa, New Hampshire, , North Carolina, , South Dakota, and West Virginia.

  1. If Joe Biden had his way he’d use tax money to finance crime. I have a better plan Impeach this dishonest lieing peace of crap, kick Harris out outlaw the Democratic party and and it’s criminal people and get back to law & order. We want Donald J Trump back for the sake of our country.

  2. At this highly charged moment in our American experience, be careful what you ask for. A Convention of States can be used to fundamentally change our nation (and not in a positive direction).

With the Progressives pushing hard for SOCIALISM (no matter what the organizers of the Convention that voted to hold a Convention of States), the Socialists will badger (or steal) the attendee’s votes to push through a Socialist/Marxist platform. Our current freedoms under the existing Amendments to the US Constitution will be stripped away, particularly the 1st Amendment to freedom of speech, press and assembly and the 2nd Amendment which affords us a legal right to own sufficient firearms and ammunition to defend ourselves, including against our own government if the need arises as it did during the American Revolution. The Progressives will put in place guarantees that only Socialists can be elected, and they will strip the states of any authority they have to operate independent of the federal government.

Suggest the people that are calling for a Constitutional Convention turn instead to working toward drafting their proposed Amendments and putting them forth to get approved per Article V by getting Congress to move on such changes, minus the Constitutional Convention.

  3. I have been suspicious of the Convention of States since the beginning they started showing up. They do a good talk in convincing states that the Convention of States is the way to go as they gain the power through the states approving of the group to make laws and putting them in effect without voter approval. The approval comes from the states and who governs the states, the parties and if you have a crooked party in enough states they can wipe out the Constitution and give no authority to the voters. Even Congress has to have a national vote to make law a new amendment while the Convention of States does not have to have national voting. Sounds like just another “new” party acting like communists do. A third door to destroying our Constitution and our American culture.
