Virginia Democrats Propose Assault Weapons Ban

-

Another radical bill is being proposed by Democrats in .

An assault weapons ban has been filed by Fairfax-area Delegate in the Virginia House of Delegates. Charlotteville-area Senator Creigh Deeds has also filed a complimentary bill in the Virginia Senate.

HB 2 seeks to “make it a Class 1 misdemeanor for anyone to import, sell, manufacture, purchase, possess, transport or transfer an assault firearm.”

The Bill's text defines an assault weapons ban as “a semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material with a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 10 rounds.”

The Virginia Citizen's Defense League (VCDL) wasted no time last week alerting their supporters about the Bill, and encouraging them to make their voices heard on January 15th of next year at the group's annual lobby day.

“By making these the second bills in both the House and the Senate, the Democrats are signaling that will be one of their primary objectives in 2024.

This is exactly what VCDL predicted if gun owners didn't turn out in large numbers this year. Those of you who voted did your part to keep this from happening.

Lobby Day is on Monday, January 15. We strongly suggest that Lobby Day 2024 be a big event to send a loud and message that we oppose any and all gun control!”

Helmer – who is also running in the Democrat primary for Virginia's 10th Congressional District – also carried a similar bill in the 2023 legislative session.
