Man Being Prosecuted For Shooting 3 DC Cops Is Illegal Immigrant

-

Earlier this month, three Washington, D.C., police officers were shot after an hours-long stand-off with a man who has now been confirmed to be in the country illegally.

Stephen Claude Rattigan, 48, has been held without bond since mid-February, and is facing a slew of charges.

Per the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia, Rattigan is charged with “assault with intent to kill while armed, assault on a police officer while armed, and possession of a firearm during a of violence following the shooting of three Metropolitan Police Department officers and an hours-long standoff in Southeast DC. He is also being charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals.”

A FOX5 D.C. reporter confirmed Rattigan's immigration status with the U.S. (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Mission.

The ERO manages all aspects of the immigration enforcement process, including the identification, arrest, detention, and removal of noncitizens who are subject to removal or are unlawfully present in the U.S.

Two weeks ago, the Washington Times reported:

Rattigan was wanted for punching a dog on camera last year, according to court documents made public Thursday.

The filing also revealed that Stephen Claude Rattigan, 48, of Southeast, had 31 dogs at his home when D.C. police officers came to his door with an arrest warrant on animal cruelty charges.

An additional document showed that Mr. Rattigan's landlord had an eviction notice approved last month after the suspect failed to get rid of his dogs last summer.

The investigation is still ongoing.
