In a rare move, the liberal media has turned its attention to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who was recently chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate for the 2024 Democratic ticket. The scrutiny comes over two weeks after Harris took her place at the top of the ticket, during which the media has largely given her a pass.
CNN aired a segment on Wednesday addressing serious concerns regarding Walz's claims about his tenure in the Minnesota National Guard. Some have accused Walz of embellishing his service record or even committing stolen valor.
During the segment, a CNN analyst pointed out that Walz had, on several occasions, made statements suggesting he had been in combat situations. “Walz did make a comment, speaking to a group – he's done it a couple of times, where he has used language that suggested that he carried weapons in a fighting situation. As you know, with your contact with the military, I know from coming from a military family, there is a difference between being in a combat area, being involved in a time of war and actually being in a position where people are shooting at you. There is no evidence that at any time Governor Walz was in the position of being shot at, and some of his language could easily be seen to suggest that he was,” the analyst explained.
The controversy gained traction when Kamala Harris' campaign shared a video on X in which Walz appeared to use his military service to advocate for an assault weapons ban and stricter gun control laws. His statements implied that he had carried a weapon into an active combat zone – a claim that CNN's fact-checking revealed to be untrue.
CNN correspondent Jim LaPorta conducted a thorough investigation into Walz's military record, shedding light on the discrepancies between his claims and his actual experience.
