Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is firmly against President Joe Biden's recent Supreme Court proposals.
McConnell compared Biden's suggested Supreme Court reforms to the Jan 6 Capitol riot in a new interview.
“That's what some people were trying to do Jan. 6 — to break the system of handing an administration from one to the next,” McConnell told Punchbowl News in an interview conducted this week and published on Friday. “We can have our arguments, but we ought to not try to break the rules.”
McConnell has had an uneven relationship with Donald Trump since he said the former president and others “provoked” the Capitol riot. However, despite the disagreements, McConnell ultimately endorsed Trump for President.
In a Washington Post column, Biden outlined a three-part plan to reform the Supreme Court which includes term limits, a binding code of conduct, and a “no one is above the law” amendment. (RELATED: Biden Proposes Supreme Court Reforms In Washington Post Column)
To begin with, there's the “No One Is Above the Law Amendment”:
First, I am calling for a constitutional amendment called the No One Is Above the Law Amendment. It would make clear that there is no immunity for crimes a former president committed while in office. I share our Founders' belief that the president's power is limited, not absolute. We are a nation of laws — not of kings or dictators.
Then came his proposal for term limits for Supreme Court justices:
Second, we have had term limits for presidents for nearly 75 years. We should have the same for Supreme Court justices. The United States is the only major constitutional democracy that gives lifetime seats to its high court. Term limits would help ensure that the court's membership changes with some regularity. That would make timing for court nominations more predictable and less arbitrary. It would reduce the chance that any single presidency radically alters the makeup of the court for generations to come. I support a system in which the president would appoint a justice every two years to spend 18 years in active service on the Supreme Court.
And his binding code of conduct:
Third, I'm calling for a binding code of conduct for the Supreme Court. This is common sense. The court's current voluntary ethics code is weak and self-enforced. Justices should be required to disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity and recuse themselves from cases in which they or their spouses have financial or other conflicts of interest. Every other federal judge is bound by an enforceable code of conduct, and there is no reason for the Supreme Court to be exempt.
In previous comments to The Hill, McConnell called Biden's proposals “unconstitutional” and said the plan would be “dead on arrival” in Congress.
“I couldn't be more disappointed. This is a man who was chairman of the Judiciary Committee for a long time. He absolutely knows what he recommended is unconstitutional, to try to limit the terms of the Supreme Court justices who under the Constitution are appointed for life,” the Republican leader said.
McConnell offered some critical words for his own party during his interview with Punchbowl. While he did not directly criticize Trump or his running mate JD Vance, McConnell did say that he and the former president have a “different point of view” on Vance.
He also accused his party of falling short in the actual winning elections part of the job.
“The way you win the argument is to get more people elected,” he said. “And [Democrats] have done a better job of that over the years than we have.”

That’s real funny saying Bitem knows it’s unconstitutional. The one thing Bitem has been good at since taking office is spitting on the Constitution. He hasn’t followed Constitutional Law since day one.
Biden’s idea for the Supreme Court is simply to bend the rules to help his side. Everyone can see this. That said, I don’t care to read anything about McConnell. He no longer sees anything realistically. He lives in a dimension that existed 20-30 years ago and refuses to leave it or progress forward. He’s the stuff Republicans can’t get rid of quickly enough.
Wonder if Biden realizes that getting this law passed could result in him being arrested for aiding and abetting human and sex trafficking, drug smuggling, terrorism, rape, murder, child molestation, assault and battery, and the murders Fentanyl Poisoned Victims and Police Officers because he deliberately broke every U.S. immigration law by inviting millions of illegal aliens into our country?
The immunity for Presidential Acts only pertains to actions taken in the fulfillment of the duties of his office. Enabling illegal aliens to cross our borders and providing them transportation to any city they want, lodgings, food, illegal work Visas, get out of jail and free rides out of town, is not, and never has been the duty of any US President, or Government Employee.
Biden and the Dems are always scheming to change the United States to a communist mentality with the citizens being controlled by government rules (against the people’s will).
When are the Senate and House going to charge these lying Democrats and start putting them in jail. They were corrupt on Jan. 6th and lied about the incursion. They illegally put Trump supporters in prison against the law. The Democrats are always telling falsehoods! Trial and Jail them!
