Reporters covering Donald Trump's claims of presidential immunity in his federal election interference trial have become embroiled in controversy after being overheard earlier today.
As they awaited Trump's arrival at the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse to observe today's hearing on whether the former president is immune from prosecution for official acts, a live feed captured two journalists complaining about the difficulty finding an unobstructed view of Trump entering the courthouse.
The grievance fest quickly devolved into “jokes” about a Trump assassination.
“You know what the worst part is?” the first unidentified journalist said. “Even if he has his window open and he's hanging out of it, he will be on the other side of the street.”
“I mean, if he's driving, we've got a good shot,” a second voice chimed in.
“Yeah, if he's driving with the front window open?” the first reporter interjected sarcastically.
“Yeah, or if it's a convertible,” his colleague joked.
“Yeah,” responded the first journalist. “I wasn't thinking about that.”
“Yeah. Like if he just pulls up –,” journalist number two began, before the original voice quipped: “Like JFK?”
The second voice burst into laughter.
Having his ego sufficiently stroked, the first voice gave an encore performance: “Maybe someone, just like they told JFK. You know what you should do? You should take a convertible! It's so nice out!”
