NBC News' latest hire, former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel, appeared on “Meet the Press” Sunday in her first appearance as a $300,000 per year contributor.
Host Kristen Welker didn't make it easy for her, pressing McDaniel over criticism from fellow RNC members, her election track record and an audio recording of then-President Trump and herself pressuring two Wayne County election officials to reverse their initial votes in favor of certifying the election after Joe Biden won Michigan by 154,000 votes.
McDaniel promised to get attorneys for the officials if they declined to certify the votes.
“If you can go home tonight, do not sign it…We will get you attorneys,” The Detroit News reported McDaniel saying.
Had they succeeded in rescinding their votes, the two officials could have thrown Michigan's certification of the 2020 presidential election into doubt.
“Do you have regrets about that phone call?” Welker asked McDaniel point blank. Instead, McDaniel attempted to pivot.
After playing a clip of McDaniel telling Chris Wallace last July that she didn't believe Biden won “fair,” Welker asked again: “Can you say as you sit here today, did Joe Biden win the election fair and square?”
“He won, he's the legitimate president,” McDaniel began.
“Did he win fair and square?” Welker interjected.
McDaniel eventually admitted that Biden won “fair and square.”
McDaniel's appearance was almost immediately criticized by NBC News' Chief Political Analyst Chuck Todd.
