In an interview with Piers Morgan, movie star Dennis Quaid stated that he had no intention of voting for Donald Trump this November until he witnessed what he described as the “weaponization of our justice system.”
“Trump is the most investigated person, probably in the history of the world, and they haven't been able to really get him on anything,” he remarked. “What he did with Korea, with ‘Rocket Baby,' the way he defeated ISIS in three weeks. You know, people don't even remember, it happened so fast. How he stood up for us overseas. The way he responded to China. He stands up to people and that's what makes him a leader. Rather than, what I kind of compare it to, what was going on in Jimmy Carter's administration, where we're trying to be everybody's friend and pal.”
“People might call him an a**hole, but he's my a**hole,” Quaid quipped to his British host.
Elaborating on his changing position, Quaid said: “Well, look, you know, I was in the last campaign and in '16, you know, and in '20, I found myself going, ‘Oh, please don't do that. Please don't say that.' You know, it's these things that come out of his mouth. But, as president, the only thing I liked about Trump was everything he did…he stands up to people, and that's what makes him a leader.”
The remarks come as a jury in New York has begun deliberating Trump's fate in his so-called hush money trial.

Trump was indicted in 2023, with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg saying that the former president “fraudulently falsified New York business records to conceal crimes that hid damaging information—including a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels—from the public during the 2016 presidential campaign.”
Trump, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has continued to deny any wrongdoing in the case.
Trump is also facing two federal indictments by Special Counsel Jack Smith for his alleged mishandling of classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence, and a second for allegations relating to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Trump has denied any wrongdoing in each of the two federal cases.
Additionally, Trump was indicted in Fulton County, Georgia, on charges relating to election interference and violations of the state's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
At 70, Quaid has been a leading man on the big and small screen for five decades. He's best known for his starring roles in “The Right Stuff,” “Great Balls of Fire” and “Far from Heaven.” He most recently portrayed Deputy U.S. Marshal Sherrill Lynn in the Paramount+ Western series “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.” Quaid stars as President Ronald Reagan in “Reagan” alongside Penelope Ann Miller and Jon Voight. “Reagan” will debut in theaters nationwide on August 30.
