The White House South Lawn hosted a lively Juneteenth event Monday with renowned artists like Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle. However, the event took an unexpected turn when President Biden appeared to freeze during the festivities.
A Moment Of Stillness – What Happened?
While the concert was in full swing, a video surfaced showing Biden standing almost perfectly still for approximately 30 seconds amidst the dancing around him. The scene depicted a stark contrast, Biden motionless while others moved with varying degrees of talent.
The reason for this moment of stillness remains unclear, but it has sparked widespread speculation and commentary.
Observers noted that individuals with dementia or other memory-related issues can sometimes experience difficulty with movement, leading to speculation about the president’s health.
People with dementia or other memory issues can struggle with movement for several reasons, including:
- Cognitive Impairment
- Motor Skills Decline
- Muscle Weakness and Stiffness
- Fear and Anxiety
- Medication Side Effects
- Secondary Health Conditions
- Lack of Physical Activity
The Republican National Committee (RNC) Research’s X account quickly seized on the moment, posting a video clip with the caption: “Why isn’t Biden moving?”
The situation was resolved when Philonise Floyd, the brother of George Floyd, noticed the president’s lack of movement. He put his arm around the president and engaged in a brief conversation. Biden eventually smiled and fist-bumped Floyd.
Biden framed the event as a “fitting tribute to Juneteenth.” He took the opportunity to address current political and social issues, warning about a resurgence of what he called “old ghosts in new garments trying to take us back.”
“Taking away your freedoms, making it harder for Black people to vote or have your vote counted. Closing doors of opportunity, attacking the values of diversity, equity and inclusion. If you can believe it, banning books about Black experience.”
What Are The Political Implications Of Biden’s Freeze?
The incident comes at a time when polls indicate that former President Donald Trump is performing better with Black voters compared to previous elections. In the 2020 election, Trump received about 8-12% of the Black vote.
Current polling data suggests his support among Black voters has increased to around 18-23%. While Biden still maintains a significant lead within this demographic, any erosion in support could have dire consequences for his reelection.
