and were elected as the new chair and co-chair of the Republican National Committee () on Friday.

Speaking to committee members, Whatley promised that the RNC “will be focused like a laser on getting out the vote and protecting the ballot.”

“In less than eight months, we are going to determine the fate of not only the but of the entire world,” he added. “And this body, the RNC, is going to be the vanguard of a movement that will work tirelessly, every single day to elect our nominee Donald J. As Politico reports:

cemented his control of the Republican National Committee on Friday after members formally voted to install his handpicked candidates — including his daughter-in-law — in top roles at the party.

Michael Whatley, chair of the North Carolina , has been named the new chair of the RNC, replacing Ronna McDaniel, whom Trump pressured to vacate her post. While assembled for a hastily called meeting in Houston, the committee also installed Lara Trump, the former president's daughter-in-law, as co-chair, and agreed by acclamation to consider Trump to be the party's nominee.

Trump's senior campaign adviser will be made the RNC's chief operating officer.

In his acceptance speech, Whatley said the RNC will work “hand in glove” with Trump's campaign over the next eight months to improve the party's get-out-the-vote efforts and to “support the sanctity of their vote.”

While addressing members, Lara Trump stressed the significance of fundraising and early voting for the GOP. She revealed that the RNC had already received a check for $100,000. She also emphasized the need to adopt a new approach and encourage people to participate in activities such as early voting, which the GOP has struggled to promote in the past.
