Trump Announces Change of Heart on Voting Measures He’s Long Opposed

-

Former President Donald is preparing for a major tactical shift in his latest bid.

It involves embracing electoral measures he's repeatedly blamed for costing him reelection after losing the presidency.

In an email to supporters, Trump called for Republicans to embrace mail-in voting and ballot harvesting.

He added that Republicans should use the vote-gathering methods “in every state we can.”

As Just the News reports:

Trump made the declaration in a fundraising email this week, according to the Journal. “The radical Democrats have used ballot harvesting to cancel out YOUR vote and walk away with elections that they NEVER should have won,” the former president said, adding that he himself is “doing something HUGE to fight back.”

“Our path forward is to MASTER the Democrats' own game of harvesting ballots in every state we can,” Trump continued, urging supporters to help “start laying the foundation for victory RIGHT NOW.”

Republican politicians have increasingly urged the base to embrace early voting after an underwhelming midterm election that overwhelmingly relied on Election Day turnout.

Ballot harvesting involves the collection and submission of ballots by a third party. Though Trump remains critical of specific measures, his team has started evaluating early voting laws by state.

The Wall Street Journal has more on the former president's strategic change of heart:

It amounts to a significant shift for Mr. Trump and comes as GOP rivals, including Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, say the party squandered chances in recent elections by focusing too much on Election Day turnout.

His criticism of mail-in voting, before and since his 2020 loss, helped chip away at GOP faith in early voting, show, and party strategists say that has contributed to election defeats, including in gubernatorial and Senate races in and Pennsylvania last November.

While speaking to Breitbart News in December, Trump said that Republicans have to “live with the system that stinks.”

Still, he expressed optimism that the laws might one day change.
