On Thursday, former President Donald Trump admitted that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is “absolutely” on his growing list of potential running mates.
“Absolutely, he is,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity when asked about Abbott's presence on his vice presidential shortlist.
Newsweek's Benjamin Lynch has more:
Abbott is a “spectacular man,” Trump added to Hannity and “certainly he would be somebody that I would very much consider.”
The former president visited the border at Eagle Pass, Texas, on Thursday along with Abbott.
Eagle Pass is a key area of contention after a Supreme Court ruling in January said federal agents could cut razor wire. The Biden adminstration argued it prevented them from accessing important parts of the border.
Since, Texas has blocked federal agents from entering, putting the state directly at odds on the border issue with Trump's political foe President Joe Biden.
Thursday's revelation came after Hannity asked Trump if he had any names left to make public. Insiders believe Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) is Trump's preferred choice. (RELATED: Loss Of Minority Voters Has Democrats Seeing Red)
“Tim, for himself, he was fine. He did OK. I mean, he was OK as a candidate, but he didn't want to talk about himself. He's a very good man. For me, he's unbelievable. He's a surrogate – he goes on these shows and he's ripping everybody apart,” Trump gushed to Hannity.
The former president expects to secure the 1,215 GOP delegates needed for the nomination by March 12, positioning him for a historic rematch against President Joe Biden.
At a recent town hall, Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked Trump about his shortlist. Trump confirmed that his list included biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard. A longtime Democrat, Gabbard left the party in 2022 after becoming increasingly conservative on several critical issues.
