Many Nikki Haley supporters in the Republican primary voted for her because she said Donald Trump was unfit for office. Although some will vote for Trump over Biden regardless of what happens between now and Election Day, Trump likely needs at least 90% of the Republican vote in our highly polarized political climate to win the presidency. Trump knows this of course, which is why he’s trying to reconcile with Haley, who called him “unstable and unhinged” and whom he nicknamed “birdbrain.”
Despite months of bad blood, Trump’s willingness to find a position for Haley proves that he’s not resting on his laurels despite his edge in the national polls.
ABC News further reports:
“I appreciated what she said,” Trump told Long Island’s News 12 after his rally on Thursday when asked about her comments.
Trump then suggested there could be a place for Haley on his “team” and called her a “capable person.”
“Is there room for her on your team or, better yet, your ticket?” the reporter asked.
“Well, I think she’s gonna be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts,” said Trump.
“You know, we had a nasty campaign; it was pretty nasty. But she’s a very capable person, and I’m sure she’s going to be on our team in some form. Absolutely.”
Trump didn’t specify what role Haley might have.
Appearing on stage at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, Haley said that despite her reservations about Trump, she believes he’s a much better candidate than President Biden.
“Trump has not been perfect on these policies. I’ve made that clear many, many times. But Biden has been a catastrophe. So I will be voting for Trump,” Haley revealed in her lukewarm endorsement.
Earlier this month, Trump posted on social media: “Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!” in response to speculation that she made his shortlist. (RELATED: Tucker Accuses Ben Shapiro And Nikki Haley Of ‘Threatening’ The Lives Of His Children)
A recent Harvard-Harris Poll suggests that out of all of Trump’s potential running mates, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott is the one who boosts his chances the most.
