Trump Suggests GOP Rivals Compete For Opportunity To Be His Running Mate

-

Donald Trump will be paying close attention to the upcoming Republican debates.

Trump, who is polling as the GOP front-runner for 2024, has suggested that he doesn't need to participate in the debates and may choose his running mate based on their performance.

“Let them debate so I can see who I MIGHT consider for !” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The first debate is slated for Aug. 23 in Milwaukee.

According to The Hill, during a recent rally in Erie, Pa., Trump was met with a chorus of “no” when he asked the crowd whether he should take part in the debate.

“Am I going to stand up there by guys with zero, 1, 2, 3 percent, maybe 4, and have them ask me hostile questions?” he asked Saturday.

According to the first New York Times/Siena College poll of the 2024 campaign, Trump is leading his nearest challenger, Gov. Ron DeSantis, by a landslide 37 percentage points nationally among the likely Republican primary electorate. No other candidate topped 3 percent support in the poll.

Earlier this month, A Trump adviser said the former president hadn't yet decided whether to participate in the Republican presidential primary debates but said that it's “unlikely” that he participates in at least the first two events. (RELATED: Trump's Opposition To Debates Will Do Us Some Genuine Good)

Trump has signaled he's also considering tapping firebrand Kari Lake as a potential running mate.
