In an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, former President Donald Trump acknowledged that Ronna McDaniel’s time as the chair of the Republican National Committee may be short-lived.

Bartiromo began by confronting Trump about the status of the cash-strapped RNC, which started the year with just $8 million. According to the latest Federal Election Commission filing, that figure is less than half of what the Democratic National Committee reported.

“RNC doesn’t seem to be so strong,” Bartiromo opened. “The Democrats have all the money.”

Trump hinted that donors are holding back due to dissatisfaction with the current leadership.

“The money that they get – people are not looking at the RNC,” he replied. “They want, they want changes. You have to understand, I have nothing to do with the RNC.”

The Fox News anchor then asked Trump for his opinion about McDaniel.

CNN continues:

Last week, the Republican National Committee reported its lowest cash on hand figure since 2014, according to FEC filings. The RNC had just $8 million in the bank at the end of December, the lowest figure since it reported about $5 million in cash on hand in 2014.

The committee was outraised by the Democratic National Committee, which raised about $40 million to its GOP counterpart’s $20 million during the fourth quarter of last year. And the DNC held a large cash advantage over the RNC, reporting about $21 million banked.

McDaniel has also faced criticism from some Republicans after the GOP underperformed in the 2022 midterms and lost on several high-profile ballot questions in 2023.

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy sharply criticized McDaniel at a GOP presidential debate and said the GOP was “a party of losers” after Republicans “got trounced” in high-profile elections in November in Ohio, Virginia and Kentucky. Ramaswamy blamed McDaniel for Republican underperformance dating to 2018.

Some speculated that McDaniels was trying to save her job by urging Nikki Haley to drop out of the presidential race after the New Hampshire primary.
