‘Witch Hunt’ Against Trump And Capitol Rioters Raising GOP Loyalty

-

ANALYSIS – Go figure! The hyper-partisan politicized judicial witch hunt against former President , and the similar persecution of anyone even remotely related to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot is only increasing Republican loyalty to Trump.

It's also making many Republicans more sympathetic to the rioters.

This, according to a Washington Post-University of Maryland poll.

, Democrats, and their allies in the liberal establishment don't know when to stop. They showed that with their relentless pursuit of the false Russia-collusion fraud for four straight years. They did so with the now debunked “right-wing extremists” in the U.S. military charade after Jan. 6.

And they continued with the heavy-handed persecution of even Americans who didn't engage in violence on Jan 6.

The over-the-top, absurd criminal indictments against Trump with nearly a hundred, mostly contrived charges, is the last straw. It is now simply too much to stomach.

Thanks to the Democrat overkill, even Republicans who may have had doubts about Trump or the Capitol riot are becoming more loyal to Trump and more sympathetic to the Jan. 6 rioters.

The Washington Post reports:

Republicans are showing increased loyalty to the former president as he campaigns for reelection and fights criminal charges over his attempt to stay in power after losing in 2020. They are now less likely to believe that Jan. 6 participants were “mostly violent,” less likely to believe Trump bears responsibility for the attack and are slightlyless likely to view Joe Biden's election as legitimate than they were in a December 2021 Post-UMD survey.

But that's not all. The Post continues: “Over a third of Americans believe Biden's election was illegitimate.”

It adds:

Despite audits in multiple states and nationally televised congressional hearings in which state officials and aides to Trump confirmed there was no evidence of fraud in the 2020 election [MY NOTE: it's not a matter of whether there was fraud, it's a matter of how much – or just ‘rigged'], more Americans question Biden's victory than they did two years ago.

When The Post and UMD asked in December 2021 whether Biden was legitimately elected, 69 percent of Americans said he was. Now, that's down to 62 percent. Slightly fewer Republicans today (31 percent) say Biden's election was legitimate compared with 2021 (39 percent). More than one-third of Americans, or 36 percent, do not accept Biden's victory as legitimate.

Beyond that, The Post reports, “few Republicans, think Jan. 6 threatened democracy,” as Democrats are desperate to accuse.

While 55 percent of Americans (primarily Democrats and some independents) believe the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was “an attack on democracy that should never be forgotten,” most Republicans and Trump voters totally reject this view.

As The Post notes:

More than 7 in 10 Republicans say too much is being made of the attack and that it is “time to move on.” Fewer than 2 in 10(18 percent) of Republicans say that Jan. 6 protesters were “mostly violent,” dipping from 26 percent in 2021.Currently, 77 percent of Democrats and 54 percent of independents say the protesters were mostly violent, little changed from 2021.

I was at the Capitol on Jan. 6 – working, not participating in the protests.

I did see a large group of individuals who violently attacked police. And I condemned them harshly in writing the following day.

But they were far from the majority. Instead, there were at most a few hundred being violent, out of tens of thousands peacefully protesting outside, and even more hundreds who entered the Capitol, but were not violent at all.

It's good to see that the false narrative that the Jan. 6 protests were mostly violent, is being effectively diminished.

They were not.

There is a lot more in this detailed poll, and you can read more at The Post. But you will have to swallow the paper's bias and sift through its spin.

The bottom line is, Republicans are increasingly inclined to support Trump and forgive the Jan. 6 protesters. And that's not a good thing for Democrats or their skewed “Trump threatens democracy” narrative.
