In an interview with former CNN host and current News Nation host Chris Cuomo, RFK Jr. suggested that Kamala Harris was unworthy of the White House, and explained why rather than remain in the race he chose to endorse Trump, and drop out of the race in states where polling showed it would be politically advantageous for the Republican candidate.
Cuomo asked, “Why wasn't it a better move to stay neutral and command the attention of both sides as long as you could for the duration of this campaign?”
Kennedy replied, “Well, it became clear to me, Chris, that I was not gonna be allowed on the debating stage, which was really my only path to victory. I was already being boycotted by all of the mainstream media, the liberal media.”
Kennedy went on to explain that he was shut out by the media in what he viewed as a strategic move by the Establishment to aid Harris. With a large portion of older voters receiving the majority of their news from traditional cable news, he contended he had no path forward and had to do what he thought was best for the country.
He continued, “When Ross Perot ran, in [the] ten months he was running for president, he had 34 interviews on mainstream media. In seventeen months I only had two live interviews on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC so I couldn't reach that audience…I had no way to grow. And our polling was showing that if I stayed in the race, Vice President Harris would win, and I did not want that outcome.”
The major political parties have a history of treating third party candidates with hostility, but this election cycle seemed to evoke a different level of panic and aggression from the Democratic Party — not only in media coverage (and lack thereof) but in legal battles across the country about who would be allowed on each ballot. Jill Stein complained that the Democratic Party had hired an army of lawyers to try to keep her off of the ballot and that they were knowingly draining her campaign's resources.
Kennedy went on to share unfiltered opinions on Harris.
“I don't think that Vice President Harris is a worthy president of this country. I think we need to have a president who can give an interview, who can articulate a vision, who can put together an English sentence, who can articulate and defend her policies and her record, and who can engage in a debate, and regular debate, unscripted appearances.”
Harris has come under intense public scrutiny for her refusal to talk to the press, sit down for interviews, articulate her policy, and address her record in the month since she became the top Democratic presidential contender. When she finally sat down in an interview with CNN last week, her running mate joined her, and she still underwhelmed viewers to the point that she forced left wing pundits to criticize her.
He then went on to denounce her pro-war stance, pointing to her DNC speech.
“Vice President Harris' speech at the Convention made it very clear that she will continue the warfare state, that she's bragging about it. How she sees warfare as a tool — as a frontline tool — of American foreign policy. This is a catastrophe for our country.”
