Colt Gray, the 14-year-old perpetrator in Wednesday’s Georgia school shooting, has been on the FBI’s radar since May 2023, when the agency received an anonymous tip that allegedly traced back to Gray making “online threats to commit a school shooting.”
On Sept. 4, 2023, Gray reportedly opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.
Two students and two teachers were killed, while nine other people were injured. Gray was apprehended as police swarmed the campus.

In a joint statement, the FBI’s Atlanta field office and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the agency’s National Threat Operations Center received an anonymous tip about threats posted online regarding a possible school shooting in May 2023.
The agencies said that the threats contained images of guns.
Within 24 hours of receiving the anonymous tip, investigators determined the threats originated in Georgia and the matter was referred to the sheriff’s office.
“The Jackson County Sheriffs’ Office located a possible subject, a 13-year-old male, and interviewed him and his father,” the FBI said. “The father stated he had hunting guns in the house, but the subject did not have unsupervised access to them.”
According to reports, the boy – believed to be Gray – denied making the threats when questioned, and local schools were notified to monitor him.
When Gray was identified as the perpetrator, classmates who spoke to the press said they weren’t surprised.
Before the shooting, a call from an unknown source was placed to Apalachee High School stating that five schools would be targeted and that Apalachee would be the first.
According to a student in his class, Gray left his Algebra classroom around 9:45 a.m. As the doors locked automatically he knocked on the door to reenter. A student who got up to let him back in saw a gun and refused to allow him back into the classroom. After being denied reentry, Gray allegedly turned around and shot 10-15 times toward a nearby classroom.
After hearing the shoots, students and faculty in nearby classrooms barricaded the doors before hiding.
The school was placed in lockdown at around 10:20 a.m. The first law enforcement units arrived three minutes later.
In a post on X, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp stated that he has directed available state resources to respond to the incident.
The deceased victims were identified as 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, math teacher Christina Irimie and math teacher and football coach Richard Aspinwall. Eight students and a teacher were wounded.

This is because of the change in laws back in the early 1970s regarding how the mentally ill can be treated, even against their will. Before the change in the law, when there were valid reasons to do so, a person could be held for 3 days and undergo mental assessment. A decision then would be made how to proceed, and some people were indeed held in hospital or a facility and treated. Of course anything and any law can be abused, but that aside– there was not a homeless problem then and school shootings were extremely uncommon. And then the Liberal bleeding hearts decided that “it is not against the law to be mentally ill,” (so unfair to detain them, doncha know), and so now they are all loose in the world unable to live normal lives and causing mayhem.
