Hunter Biden is offering to plead guilty to all nine federal tax evasion charges without securing a deal with prosecutors, his attorney revealed in federal court Thursday afternoon.
Previously, Biden had attempted to resolve the case with a plea that would allow him to maintain his innocence while still accepting punishment.
As CNN reports:
The arrangement wouldn’t have become final until District Judge Mark Scarsi, a Trump appointee who has presided over the tax case, gave his stamp of approval in open court. He said Thursday that he would make that decision at a later date. This type of arrangement, called an “Alford plea,” would have seen Biden acknowledge that special counsel David Weiss has enough evidence to convict him – and then he would accept whatever sentence Scarsi eventually hands down.
But in a surprising turn Thursday afternoon, Biden’s team changed course and instead said Biden is prepared to admit that his conduct satisfied the elements of the tax offenses with which he had been charged.
Prosecutors from Weiss’ team had said they would object to an Alford plea. Prosecutor Leo Wise told the judge that Lowell’s comments in court earlier in the day were the first time he learned about a potential plea change.
“I want to make something crystal clear – the United States oppose an Alford plea,” Wise said.
“Hunter Biden is not innocent. Hunter Biden is guilty. He is not permitted to plead guilty on special terms,” the prosecutor added.

Hunter has a safety net. The AG Merrick Garland will kill this prosecution. If not, there is always, DADDY I need a pardon. Since Biden is not in the race, he will pardon Hunter immediately if necessary.

What are you talking about? Hunter has the ultimate “fail safe”! His father can pardon him, after the election of course. By pleading guilty, he avoids exposing his father’s participation in his illegal acts which would be revealed by the evidence. Remember, Hunter had a sweetheart deal on his gun charge which blew up when the judge asked if included these charges. Then this trial was delayed as was the sentence on the previous trial, until after the election,
