“A suspect has reportedly been apprehended.”
Former President Donald Trump's campaign has confirmed that the Republican nominee is “safe” after reports of gunshots in his vicinity.
“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” Trump communications director Steven Cheung said in a brief statement.
The shots were fired while the former president was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, leading to a prompt lockdown of the golf course.
The Secret Service announced on X that it is working with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office to investigate what it is calling a protective incident that occurred shortly before 2 p.m.
Posting to X, Donald Trump Jr. wrote that an “AK-47 was discovered in the bushes, per local law enforcement.”
“A suspect has reportedly been apprehended,” he added.
